Galloway office said they didn't know when he would attend Commons
10.01.2006 10:21
I am posting this brief note to share the info our organisation got on Monday 9 January 2006 from George Galloway’s office in the House of Commons. They said that they had no idea on what date or day Mr. Galloway would be available in the House of Commons.
Our organisation has passed on the full details to the Brick Lane London e1 Area campaign against the Crossrail hole Bill. That campaign will publish the relevant parts later on today.
Thanks

Don’t believe the propaganda

Some people will grasp at anything to back up New Labour. Whatever you think of Galloway’s decision to take part in Big Brother (I personally it was a mistake) it pails into insignificance compared with the crime on Blair and all his supporters.
Whenever any other MP is not in his consituency (eg on some freebie "fact finding missions" or attending a pro business seminar/conference etc) you never see any campaign by either the right or the "left" demanding they get back to parliament. The hypocrisy here is astounding.
Below is the Respect comment on Crossrail.
New Labour are suggesting that George Galloway will be missing an important Crossrail debate on Thursday. This is a cheek coming from a party, the majority of whose MPs supported the Crossrail Bill which threatens to bring massive disruption, hardship and pollution to Tower Hamlets under the present proposals. It was only when George Galloway and Respect started taking up the issue that New Labour locally moved to try and cover themselves by expressing the most mealy mouthed criticism of limited aspects of the bill.
But they are also wrong about what is happening on Thursday. The Select Committee, which will be hearing petitions on the bill over the next couple of years, is having a private meeting on Thursday which no other MPs can attend. In addition two motions are being presented to the House of Commons. One is to clarify an issue which George highlighted in his speech of opposition to the bill on its Second Reading last year, to clarify the terms of reference of the select committee. The second is a motion relating to petitions submitted after the closing date for the submission of petitions. There is therefore no general or specific debate on the substance of the bill and the two motions are what might best be termed technical motions.
As far as George is concerned, he will continue to speak out against and campaign against the Crossrail Bill. He has presented his own petition to the committee opposing the bill and is vigorously supporting the other opposition petitions from Tower Hamlets constituents. These petitions however will not be heard until long after Big Brother is a distant memory.

'Respect supporter' must be careful on claims over Crossrail

We cannot accept myths about ' It was only when George Galloway and Respect started taking up the issue...'
I don't have any problems with any member of the local community making a statement as long as that is factually correct.
I along with colleagues in 20 community and voluntary groups in the Brick Lane London E1 Area organised the first public meeting in January 2004 in the Hanbury Street to raise local awareness against the effects of Crossrail scheme on our community.

Do New Labour really support anti-crossrail campaign
12.01.2006 16:18
The post was meant to refer to New Labour opportunists like Michael Keith (leader of TH council) who is using the opportunity to pose as a concerned anti-crossrail activist when in reality he did everything he could to help the process along. (take a look at the posting "BBC should tell the truth about Crossrail HOLE Bill"
In no way was it meant to suggest that Respect were the initiators of the campaign merely that we have been involved before opportunists like Keith.
