Weekly independent poster of social centres activities

We started to do this on LARC (London) like the same, of the
one in Barcelona. The idea is the same of there. Once a week everyone from
different social centres or other places in London came to LARC to take
it. But it's not all. People there, used to bring the posters and flyers
they are making and everyone take the others posters and then post them in
their social centres. Is different here, because people in London doesn't
make a pannel in the front door of their houses to put the infousurpa and
the other posters. And there, in some of the university buildings and
other public spaces "there is" a place to post it to.

By the moment it's just starting. If we are more people and it's going on;
the idea is to do an other poster (or include all in the same) with the
news of the week. But people must contribute with the e-mails.

But we must be patient in Barcelona it started 7 years ago more or less.
And there, people have a very high community sense "now" (People have the
feeling of being a squatter). I think that only in Barcelona there must be
200 squatted houses, 30 of them social centres, and more or less 80 more
which are squatted by activists. Is not like in London that people squatts
nearly "only" because it's free. In Barcelona nearly all the houses have
the squatters flag outside the building to be recognise easyly. An other
thing is that in Barcelona exisits a Squatters assembly twice a month to
share the information about evictions and openings or campaings to make
together.

Why to do this?

Because if the posters are in the main door of the houses, people of the
street can see it. In Barcelona there are more or less 100 main doors with
the infousurpa, a poster newspapper called contrainfos and the other
posters. If the info is only on internet or inside the buildings, you can
only now about it if you search for it. (It's only for activists).

The other thing is that makes a community feeling. People go to share the
information in a place once a week. It makes network.

And at last, if our news are not in the mass media we can post them in the
streets to everyone can now about them.

Finally. We only can do this if we are thinking on it, sending the
information, going there to share the posters, and finally post them in
the doors.

Why use a racist location like LARC for the meeting

03.01.2006 18:05

You seem to be unaware of some of the real problems using LARC, which has expelled activists for combatting the fascist links they were developing through Peoples Global Action. In the end it was confirmed that the PGA info point in the Ukraine was being run Leonard Savin, a cadre of Alexander Dugin's fascist Eurasian movement. This occurred within in the context of a general refusal to look at and remedy the institutional racism practiced within the PGA Europe process and LARC itself, which is a London PGA info point.
Perhaps an alternative venue could be found?

Or not

On the other hand, some people disagree and are happy to make use of and contribute to the resources available at LARC and take with a pinch of salt the ramblimgs of somebody kicked out of LARC for shit stiring.

it's fine to disagree and good to be critical but shame on anyone who is @happy to make use of and contribute to the resources available@ at a place accused of racist exclusions without even checking out the facts

the poster idea is great - and the news bit is good as well - any chance you can post the news part as text when you put up the pdf?? thanks.

ps sorry though fabien, LARC is a building and it aint racist and neither are the people and groups who meet there - get a life you trouble maker!! try fighting causes instead of spending your time attacking activists - oh well u seeem to have a track record of attacking activists so i guess you won't change, it's so very sad.

Better Posting Title Please?

08.01.2006 14:15

Hi could you give these posts a better title? Like:

"Infousurpa - London Social Centres Weekly Listing - 1st Jan"

that way those who don't already know what it is will have an idea if they want to look at it or not :-)

Idea

Good luck says Eroding Empire

I think your "poster" is a good idea. As for changing the London activist scene and the below quote from you:

"But we must be patient in Barcelona it started 7 years ago more or less."

eroding empire started in the beginning of the year 2000, so we've been going for 6 years now and the level of input and participation from outside (especially other activists or info nerds) has been low... and sometimes negative. Everyone loves to have a swipe at you or a moan, but few pull their fingers out further than that. But, of course, EE is a listing that includes punk gigs and some dubious commercial venues- and your listing will be pure social centres, so hopefully this will open up participation for you. We hope so. Hopefully some of the stuff on our listing can help you as your posters will help us; that's what it's about, right? Too many activists and anarchos take on the habits of the old Left and duplicate each others' work because they can't work together. So we have little ego empires competing with each other in the name of mutual aid and cooperation.

If there is controversy by using the LARC, why not open your project up through the social centres and make it indeed a group effort?

PS- is there a permanent URL /web page for us to link to... as you will be doing this weekly for the next 7 years or more, linking to each individual pdf file will be alot of data-input. One concise dependable page would be more user-friendly.

ANyway, best of luck and we will put info about you up on the eroding site.
cheers,
em
