Wasn't it carthartic to bash the hell out of everything but without any breakages. Is this a spiky fluffy coalition in the making? Let's hope so and also let's do more of this. We can take this idea and up the ante as we see fit. And it's a great tradition to play with for pursuit of and raising awareness about direct democracy in 'the zone'. Maybe next time we can make the boundary smaller as a way of reclaiming the space a little more on each session? It's good to reinvent old traditions for modern purposes: radical traditionalism; the best of the traditional and the modern combined.
BTW, the police watched us from a distance for most of the march, but kept their distance. But on the South side of the river they were definitely more friendly. They got a little more shirty when we beat the crap out of the entrance to MI5 but were surprisingly relaxed at New Scotland Yard, though we didn't get quite so close.
The march ended [in the dark, yes, another late start I'm afraid] right where it started, in Trafalgar Square, except for those few of us who could wait that little bit longer before going onto the pub - Special Forces - who ended at 10 Downing Street, where, on putting up our sign and unfurling our banner we were of course threatened with arrest.
Not wanting to miss out on the post demo celebrations in the pub, at this point we backed down [discretion being the better part of valour] but not before we had a spirited debate with the coppers about the definition of a 'demonstration' and also the fundamental importance of free expression in a democracy and especially in 'the zone'.
Also, I managed to kiss the officer who threatened me with arrest as she and her partner kerb crawled alongside us, surveying and escorting us as we went to join the rest of the lovely group in the pub. So if you're reading this PC X, why not come join our picnic plainclothes sometime !
