Exclusive Social study on tackling poverty and social exclusion in London’s East End!
We have begun publishing this series of original reports s based on the appearance of Tower Hamlets Borough Councillor Michael Keith before a group of MPs.
In the next part, we focus on the key questions that the MPs had put to Michael Keith and the key answers that he failed to give. And in his failure, aggravated the lies that he had already infected into the proceedings.
To prepare readers to factually consider that evidence, here is a short background fact file:
What is meant by a ‘lie’ here in these publications about what Tower Hamlets, London, councillor Michael Keith, told the MPs when he spoke to at a sitting of the Housing-related select committee of the House of Commons on Tuesday 15 October 2002?
The ordinarily understood and perceived sense of the word lie is included.
Also included is the particular definition of lie that is stated in the overwhelming majority of the current linguistic and sociolinguistic and analytical textbooks, sources and commentaries on the use of the English language both in the UK and elsewhere.
Finally, the meaning of the word as applied to the specific conduct of Michael Keith is linked with the meaning of lying and to lie as found in all known and live languages of the world today which can be described in brief as being :
“A statement that deviates from or perverts the truth”
What is the context of the question published on the idnymedia web site for London: ‘who authorised Michael Keith to lie to MPs?”
The answer is the behaviour of this Michael Keith who is described as the ‘leader’ of the inner London Borough of Tower Hamlets Council in what has been alleged within the East End to be the misleading of the local council housing tenants and the local community in executing the mass transfer of Tower Hamlets Council housing stock away from the Council and onto a group of so-called ‘social landlords’ who are in practice front entities that have been created by the Tower Hamlets Council itself.
So how did Michael Keith get away with the transfer of rights of the council housing tenants and residents?
The short answer is that David Edgar, the ‘lead’ councillor about ‘housing’ on Tower Hamlets Council, has closely aided him in the wrongs.
The long answer is in the fact that in Tower Hamlets, which includes the
House of Commons constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow linked with the name of George Galloway - there is no democratic opposition to the very bold and persistent misuses and abuses of the powers of a constitutionally set up local Tower Hamlets Council. There is no constitutional opposition from other councillors worthy of record here.
That is because the second largest group on Tower Hamlets council is the Lib Dams who do not have any ideological differences with Michael Keith. In fact, the Tower Hamlets Lib Dems are very keen to be included as Michael Keith’s ‘consultants’.
The word ‘consultation’ is one of the ten or so buzz words, which make up the political vocabulary of some of the Tower Hamlets Liberal democrats.
This makes life very comfortable for Michael Keith who can then devote his energy to chairing the Thames gateway London partnership Forum and other outside pursuits.
These have included stints as an occasional guide to visitors to Brick Lane.
So far s the transfer of the Council housing stock goes, there has been some noise from opponents to this demolition of community in the East End.
It has come from a small group that has so far failed to capture the imagination of the local population.
This has been due to the fact that almost every one of the ‘activists’ involved in that campaign against the antidemocratic and the illegitimate behaviour of the controlling Tower Hamlets councillors have been neutralised even before they started.
How have they been neutralised?
The neutralisation has been by these ‘ opponents’ ’ dependence for their careers or for their aspirations on the facilities or the ‘incomes’ that in turn are controlled by the ‘ruling’ faction on Tower Hamlets council.
This is a very brief summary of the causal links between the perpetrating institution of the Tower Hamlets Council and its opponents and the victims.
Despite feeling genuine depression and despair at what has been happening and despite wanting to have a critical decision-making say on what is being done to them, many of the tenants and occupants have been deprived of any effective say on their homes, their neighbourhoods.
The council homes are being stolen, robbed in the East End in political broad daylight.
Peter Rachman would have been proud of the way that Tower Hamlets Council is craftily hiding this from democratic scrutiny.
That craft is in the residents’ ‘letterbox’ almost every week in the shape of the ‘EAST END LIFE.
So confident is Michael Keith of the ‘EAST END LIFE’ that he almost collapsed of the glee he experienced when London Mayor Ken Livingstone gave a helping hand to the propaganda organ. Livingstone smiled as he posed with the ‘East End Life’ ‘editor’ and provided a visual trigger for all the
subliminally brainwashed locals who had been taught to associate the face of Ken Livingstone with the eventual Glorification of the ‘underdog’.
As he proved a week or so ago when he shared the former Labour Party’s annual ceremony at Brighton with the Tory Sebastian Coe.
The picture of Ken Livingstone in the ‘East End Life’ was in a group of three, including the
mighty Ms Chakravarti, in charge of delivering the inner cities from all notions of Liberty now.
There is no report, no comment, and no investigation in the ‘EAST END LIFE’ about anything to do with the violations of democracy by the ‘leading’ Councillors. Only plugs, promotions and pictures.
Loads and loads of pictures. In fact, in one recent issue, they had three separated photographs of the ‘leader’ himself.
These pictures please Michael Keith. And make mayor ken Livingstone extend an arm of embrace in the easterly direction of his favoured Council-propaganda sheet editor in London.
Tower Hamlets Council spends more than £4million each year in letterbox propaganda alone.
The propaganda would humble many of Joseph Stalin's most accomplished touts and canvassers. They wouldn’t know how to invent so many lies so frequently and so consistently week in week out.
As it would please all ideological followers of Joseph Goebbles.
The phenomenal factor is that neither the Nazis in the 1930s Germany under Adolph Hitler nor the former Soviet Union dominated by Joseph Stalin ever pretended to justify their repression and assaults on peoples rights by any democratic legitimacy.
What is happening in Blair-controlled Tower Hamlets Council is taking place under the over-gloating allegiance to democracy and legitimacy?
Indeed so loud is the noise of democracy in the Tower Hamlets Council that the repressive ‘East End Life’ regularly invents stories that are then displayed under headlines that have positive gloss on democracy in Tower Hamlets as ‘presented by the local Council’.
The Council prefers ignorant readership as the main target.
Ignorance in the sense that those tenants and residents on the still ‘Council’-housing estates who have neither the means nor the physical ability to get out and about to look for genuine information cannot get it together to defend themselves against the attacks on their homes, on their lives by the Council.
The ignorance and weakness amount to capital being exploited by Michael Keith
