Earlier this year a motion put to Brighton and Hove Council condemning arms manufacturers EDO MBM was emaciated by Labour councillors (although receiving support from a third of the council). The motion said that Brighton was a UN city of peace and should not allow companies who fuelled conflict to do business in the city. The council, instead of condemning EDO MBM - who manufacture weapons for conflicts in Iraq and Palestine - decided to hoist a flag for peace on UN Peace Day (Weds 21st September)
