Punk and Soundsystems to support G8 protesters

On the 1st of October, East Oxford Community Centre will be the scene of a long night of punk bands, DJs, spolen word, acoustic acts and art displays. The funds raised will be used to cover costs involved in the protests against the G8 and for the London group Campaign Against Climate Change.

The gig is a combined event by CACC and Dissent Oxford and will be used to show the vibrancy of the dissenting movement in the South East and highlight current issues, including of course climate change. High-energy punk band DSA and others will play in the amin hall, followed by DJ sets. An acoustic stage will be hosted by London MCs Peace Not War and will feature among others local Oxford performers including international poery slam champion Steve Larkin and hilarious hardcore folksinger Paul Spencer (and author of this article).

The people arrested at the G8 are almost all out on bail now but they still have court cases to get to Scotland for and who knows how much in fines to pay. All the arrests are for simple resistance to the state (even, for example, for running away from a large crowd of angry riot cops) so we're getting together to raise some money to help with their costs. It won't cover everything but it will help and is a show of solidarity for all the people who've put themselves at risk for the cause.
