Our worst nightmares

pig soup | 16.08.2005 21:33 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Social Struggles | London

Unbelievable... or prehaps not. Evidence revealed by ITV news confirms that police incompetence appears to have played a major role in their murder of Jean Charles, the Brazilian electrician shot dead on the tube. Worse still, it confirms that police repeatedly lied to excuse the fuck up.

Jean Charles was no identified leaving the building under 'surveliance' because the cop on duty was taking a piss. Then an order was made to stop Jean Charles but it was never carried out. Jean Charles took a bus unaware that his death warrent was soon to be signed by carelessness and miscommunication of the British police force. He entered the tube, walking, collected a free paper to read on the train, waved his oyster card over the sensor and passed trough the barriers like any other passenger. He proceeded down to the platform and ran for the train on the platform. Once on the train, he took his seat like everyone else, still unaware of his impending doom and the hand of the trained killers of the farce. He carried no bag and wore a thin blue denim jacket - nothing at all to cast any suspicion on him or justify his muder. Only at this stage did police identify themselves, as they shoot him dead in cold blood at poiny blank range.

Be afraid.. but be angry!

London bombs

August 16, 2005

This picture, leaked to ITV News, shows Jean Charles de Menezes on the Tube shortly after he was shot (ITV News)

New claims over bungled shooting of Brazilian
By Mark Sellman, Times Online, and Daniel McGrory

The Brazilian electrician mistakenly killed by police in the aftermath of the second London bombings was being restrained by an officer before he was shot eight times as he was sitting on a Tube train, it emerged tonight.

Witness statements and photographs from an independent police investigation leaked to ITV News also show that Jean Charles de Menezes did not run away from police at Stockwell Tube station in South London and was wearing only a denim jacket before he was shot dead on July 22.

The evidence contradicts claims from the Metropolitan Police at the time that the Brazilian’s "clothing and his behaviour at the station added to their [officers’] suspicions", that he vaulted the ticket barrier and was wearing a heavy overcoat, which could have concealed a bomb.

It also emerged that one of the undercover team keeping Senhor de Menezes’s home under surveillance was relieving himself instead of filming the operation, so officers could not tell if they had tracked down one of the alleged bombers.

His advice was "it would be worth someone else having a look" to ensure they had the right man. No other officer apparently did take a picture of him even though he had to take a bus journey to the station.

Even so, Gold Command at the Yard which was running this operation, declared a "code red" and handed responsibility to CO19 - the firearms team. The armed team had been given photographs of the alleged bombers, yet no one realised that Senhor de Menezes bore no resemblance to any of those men.

The investigation report states that the firearms unit of the police had been told that "unusual tactics" may be required and if they "were deployed to intercept a subject and there was an opportunity to challenge, but if the subject was non compliant, a critical shot may be taken."

CCTV footage clearly shows that Senhor de Menezes was wearing a thin denim jacket so he could not be concealing a bomb and nor was he carrying any bag.

Far from running to avoid police who were tailing him, the electrician did not realise anyone was following him. He used his season ticket and did not vault the barrier. He only began to run when he saw a train pull into the station and as many commuters do he quickened his pace to catch it.

At this point a surveillance officer guided four armed police into the same carriage in which Senhor de Menezes took his seat.

A man sitting opposite him is quoted as saying: "Within a few seconds I saw a man coming into the double doors to my left. He was pointing a small black handgun towards a person sitting opposite me.

"He pointed the gun at the right hand side of the man's head. The gun was within 12 inches of the man's head when the first shot was fired."

The report also reveals for the first time that a member of the surveillance team, who sat nearby, got involved and grabbed Senhor de Menezes before he was shot: "I heard shouting which included the word ‘police’ and turned to face the male in the denim jacket.

"He immediately stood up and advanced towards me and the CO19 officers …I grabbed the male in the denim jacket by wrapping both my arms around his torso, pinning his arms to his side.

"I then pushed him back onto the seat where he had been previously sitting … I then heard a gun shot very close to my left ear and was dragged away onto the floor of the carriage."

Photographs showed how Senhor de Menezes was shot at virtually point blank range as he was still in his seat. A coroner said he was shot seven times in the head and once in the shoulder.

Mark Oaten, Home Affairs Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, said: "If true, these preliminary findings will create obvious concerns. It is in the best interests of the police and the community for the full report and any recommendations, to be published as quickly as possible."

Isn't it funny that all of a sudden ITV is a worthy news source?

The endless amount of pointless bile that this "news service" allows to be published makes me somewhat disturbed.

Surely the point of Indymedia was real facts, by real people. Now it is little more than a gathering shop for complete and utter loonies.

And we wonder how Blair holds power. All debate about it has been turded into submission by sorts of shite like the above, it is pointless.

Running = DEATH

16.08.2005 23:15

An officer was too busy taking the piss to film the "subject" (pissing in public is illegal.) The official MET story thereafter, was complete fiction.

Jean Menezes was supposedly positively identified as Osman Hussein, a man he looked nothing like, just as he sat down on a tube seat, compliantly, where he was executed without question, in cold blood, as a warning to us all.

A "suspect cannot be allowed to run" and police can fire critical shots, at their own discretion, not based on any specific intelligence or logic at all. I'd call that out-of-control and in breach of the Magna Carta.

Reading this as you have said has made me very angry.....This phoney war on terror, has to be brought to a screeeaaaaaaaaaaching halt, and the psychopaths who are our so called leaders have to be brought to justice NOW,And I mean NOW........

Surely Blair can not be above the Law!!!!!!!!!! He has lied and is a war criminal,a terrorist..........Some one in the Nazi police force should be held accountable for the murder of this unfortunate Brazilian man..............

What horror!!

As a pop song by the Pop band Blur went
"The future has allready been sold"

We need the media to report what is,or maybe if enough people chipped in we could have a new newspaper on the streets called the "Daily Lie" or something similar....

Yeh yeh, fill it with sport,20 pages if you like ,but a page or true of truth might just do it................

The Govt of the world seem to want us monitored 24 hours a day for some reason, and it has nothing to do with Al CIA de.there just there to frighten us into compliance...
As the Manic street preachers once sang.. "If you tolerate this, your children will be next"

Maybe its the global warning,The possable comet impacts,The designed Avian flue to depopulate the planet.........

Thanks for the post

Who Shot Him?

17.08.2005 00:51

Keep in mind that without CCTV footage, it cannot be proven who really emptied a clip from their pistol into this man, after he was already on the ground. Police procedures do not include shooting a prone man, especially not firing eleven rounds.

Was this electrician working in the tube that morning, or was he really under surveillance? If he was under surveillance, why did eyewitnesses report that the unidentified, armed men were looking around for him?

Is it not possible that this man simply saw something he should not have, and was silenced for this? Perhaps he saw the intelligence operatives who planted the 7/21 bombs, those unexploded devices left behind as "evidence", in order to guide investigators towards an intended target?

Some patriot in the Metropolitan Police has leaked the classified internal report on the incident and reveals a whole list of lies in the official pronouncements following the shooting:

1. Mr. De Menezez was not wearing any clothing suitable for concealing a bomb; he wasn't carrying any kind of bag either.

2. Mr. De Menezez did NOT run into the station, vault the ticket barrier or do anything else of the kind. He walked into the station, used his electronic swipe card to get through the barriers and even paused to pick up a newspaper on his way down to the track levels. At this point, he had not been approached by any police officer, despite having been trailed for miles.

3. He jogged into the train but he did not trip and have to be held down by two policemen. Instead, he sat down in a seat in a train that had just arrived at Stockwell station.

4. The Rules of Engagement were as follows:

The suspect was NOT under ANY circumstances to be allowed on a train
Despite later claims to the contrary in the press, the day orders to the officers was that lethal force was only authorised if the suspect either refused to co-operate when challenged or ran away.

Despite these directives, no one was in the position to intercept him before he got on the train, despite the fact that they managed to get an undercover officer on the train ahead of him. Also, despite the fact that he was followed into the station, no one attempted to challenge him, despite the fact he was clearly not able to have a hidden explosive device on his person.

5. The police later claimed that the CCTV system at Stockwell Station was out of order. In fact, it was in perfect working order and filmed Mr. De Menezez as he entered the station, bought his newspaper, passed through the ticket barriers and descended to the track level.

6. Only after sitting down in the train was Mr. De Menezez approached and challenged by the armed police officers. He stood up and turned to look at them, probably intending to co-operate with the men shouting 'Police!' at him. Another undercover police officer, who was on the train, took the opportunity to grab him, pinning his arms, and threw him back into his seat. Then the armed officers threw the undercover officer aside (he was the one that eyewitnesses saw being pinned to the ground by two officers) and the others started pumping bullets into Mr. De Menezez's head as he sat, probably still not knowing what was going on.

The real kicker is this: Mr. De Menezez had been 'positively identified' as one of the 7/21 suspects despite the fact that no one seems to have seen his face clearly. The only officer in a position to do so was watching the entrance to the apartment block. Unfortunately he was taking a pee at the time and could only confirm that a 'male' had left. Unfortunately as he was 'indisposed', he was unable to turn on the video cameras in his vehicle to actually get a picture of the man.

The whole thing just astonishes me. I don't know whether to be mad or to be sick with fear. What really enrages me is the bald-faced lies uttered by Commissioner Ian Blair at news conferences and the way he has steadfastly defended this inexcusable mess from day one.

Okay, so Britain is at war. However, it would be nice to know that the police are capable of telling the difference between a known suspect and an innocent bystander before the decision to shoot to kill was taken.

It is an infinitely more dangerous world.

Positively ID'ed?

How times change

17.08.2005 06:58

About three weeks ago you couldn't move on Indymedia for people saying the IPCC report would obviously be a whitewash of Hutton-esque proportions and any conclusions it drew would be completely unreliable. Then it says that the police screwed up, and all of a sudden it's practically the word of God himself...

"(pissing in public is illegal.)" Um lots of thing suddenly become legal when you are acting to preserve life & limb... insert predictable cheap sarcastic comment here.

Now as I remember the your sequence of paranoid bullshit.

1.) Along the lines of "How dare they kill a suspect!" even if he was a terrorist.

2.) "How dare they kill an UNARMED suspect!"

3.) "It was an execution!"

4.) "How do they shoot someone for running!"

You are full of crap. You make out your some sort of sleuth and all you do is take your leads of the mainstream and Aled Jones (who takes his leads off the mainstream and and loons, for a living).

Now what happened to "The IPCC investigation will be a whitewash"?

Again, you are full of crap! You are a lying little propagandist: you seize anything that is convenient and parade around as "proof".

You on one hand berate the government agencies and meainstream media as untrustworthy, but as soon as anyone including well-known hate rags such as the Daily Mail or some equivalent in Turkey writes some lame article you like youy parade it around with no scrutiny.

No fucker here defended killing innocent people, so just remember that the argument was always about you reading tea leaves for your own twisted ends.

You are a proven liar and I'm still waiting for proof of your spookcatching!

Why exactly do you flood this place with crap under so many different names?

PC Magoo remember you are on duty!!

17.08.2005 12:21

Magoo -

1) Any speculation about what did and did not happen to Charles de Menezez was based entirely on information supplied by the Met all of which seems to have been proved to be untrue by recent revelations. If people on IMCUK have come up with some odd explanations as to what happens the police, from Ian Bliar down are primarily at fault.

2) This information was leaked from the IPCC and not released by them and therefore does not undermine the suspicion that the enquiry could have been a white wash. Now this information is in the public domain such a whitewash is less likely but a genuine enquiry will, if it takes place, happen inspite of the wishes of the authorities not because of them. If you don't beleive this you have to explain why the police have been pushing the their original story even while evidence to the contrary was being collected and compiled. It doesn't sound like the actions of an open and honest public service to me.

3) Pull yourself together. You're a disgrace to the uniform. Wipe the slobber from your face, take your underpants off your head and go and see the station medical officer for another dose of largactil.

protest too much?

17.08.2005 13:04

magoo if you think others are getting their political information from aled jones the former welsh child singer then, well, nothing against the informative potential of (now not so) young aled but perhaps it is not surprising that you come across as confused, upset and incoherent rather than incisive?
don;t be upset because you got it wrong and that the people who say murder is murder is murder have a point, be upset because we are slipping into a police state and till now you didn't recognise it - and then maybe with humility and clarity you can join the informed resistance..
don't worry it can even be fun growing up and coming to terms with the fact that reality doesn't always fit early fantasies about authority figures always having your best interests at heart, anyway we all have to do it eventually...
good luck!

Fake Terror

18.08.2005 05:44

There is a saying that, "We hold our leaders' hands more tightly in the dark". That is the reason False Flag Attacks are employed against their own citizens by politicians with indefensible designs for their reign.

Care in the community ?

18.08.2005 20:08

"False Flag Attacks" !!

"perhaps he saw the intelligence activists who planted the 7/21 bombs.." !!

I'm suprised they let you people out after dark! I think the victorians had the right idea about paranoid delusionals, 240 volts across the temples or a frontal lobotomy. I guess this is what comes of today's youngsters watching too much television....everything becomes a conspiracy.

YES, it was a tragedy that an apparently innocent man has been killed (remember though, he was only number 58 in this little episode)

YES, there are questions to be asked OF THE PROCESS of intelligence gathering, interpretation and dissemination.

NO ONE in the police should be scapegoated just to please the likes of left wing, anti-authoritarian activists.

NO, the anti-terror measures should NOT be relaxed (including the STK policy).

So much is made of the mere handful of so called witness statements we have been fed, but funny how the IMC types dismiss anything that does not fall in line with their conspiracy theories, but anything that supports it is suddenly god's honest truth! GET REAL - at this time you have to treat them all as unreliable.

Let the inquiry do its job .......... of course, when it concludes that this sad death was just the result of a string of unfortunate mistakes in a high pressure, high threat environment for which no one is to blame. When it stops short of sacking Ian Blair or anyone in the police (beacuse basically they did their job despite being under the type of pressure that most of the IMC clowns won't ever need to experience .....yes this IS worse than waiting for your A Level results kiddies!)........When the inquiry falls short of your needs, you'll all dismiss it anyway and it will only have served your conspiracy dreams!

Indymedia is proof that care in the community doesn't work.

hahahahahaha!

19.08.2005 08:37

Yeah, volteface is the order of the day.

Worse than bloody Alistair Campbell: "We were right!!!". Right about what??? You indiscriminately poo-pooed anyone that suggested this might'n't be a Mossad False Flag operation as spooks, trools, sheeple and coppers and started citing fucking Fox News and The Daily Mail and Telegraph as reliable sources and claiming the left-wing media was complicit in this excercise in mind control. You are still attributing witness statements to the mouths of your "conspirators" and STILL don't even realise that you should be a little embarressed by your wild speculation based on bugger all (because Say Bugger All was the Met policy.)

The IPCC report still isn't published. The Brazillian team still haven't done their bit and your acting like Perry Mason.

Get a grip there still isn't enough conclusive evidence in the public domain to indicate anything much other than suspicions that something is possibly rotten. Which none of you could have known until the alleged IPCC leak.

So get a bloody grip! We still don't know if it was an operational fuck up, if it was a state sanctioned killing gone wrong blah blah blah. For all we know the IPCC could still turn round and deliver a verdict that the police acted in good faith and the leaked statement was an anomally. Then what'll the tune be then? I WONder...

Now piss off back to Aled Jones for more Songs of Praise like good disciples and wait for the serious people to do their jobs and then come back when you find out that CIA/Mossad aren't blamed.
