"Many Londoners avoided travelling by tube and the organisation Transport for London reported that there were 50,000 more cyclists on the road than normal."

I can't find this information on Transport for London's site:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/ though I have no reason to doubt its veracity and have heard quite a bit of anecdotal evidence regarding increased cycling.
I'm hoping that this will mean better facillities for cyclists. Any suggestions on how to help bring this about are most welcome.
It would be nice to have lots of cycle only roads (still accesible by buses, emergency vehicles and residents vehicles.) Then it would be safe to bomb along at 30mph and even higher speeds on arterial routes. We could safely use recumbant bikes and tricycles with friction reducing outer shells.
