Suusex police vow to make sure 'ordinary residents and shoppers' don't have their day 'disrupted' by a demonstration in Brighton against local arms dealers EDO/MBM. The demo meets at The Level at noon.
In an article in local Brighton rag The Argus Kevin Moore, Superintendent of Brighton Police stated "We are happy for them to march as long as they go where we want them to go. If they move outside of that then we will stop them."
It is interesting that Sussex police feel moved to make a statement in advance of tomorrow's national demo. Could this be anything to do with police brutality at a demo at EDO's factory last week where police forced people towards a 10m drop onto a railway line, injuring several protesters in the process? The size of tomorrow's demo will determine how much of a mandate to represent the people of Brighton the peace protesters have and how legitimised the police feel in pushing them around.
