SATURDAY 23rd APRIL from noon till well after midnight at the St George's Circle Community Theatre, 49 Tufnell Park Road N7 (nearest tubes Tufnell Park and Holloway Road).
A special event to promote a delegation from London to this year's World Festival of Youth & Students, happening in Caracas from August 7th - 15th (www.caracas2005.info) where there will also be the chance to stay and work with the radical communities in Venezuela.
For over six years, the government there has been spending the vast oil wealth on the people by building the basics such as schools, universities, hospitals, housing, subsidised supermarkets and community-kitchens. Starvation and illiteracy have been eradicated and co-operatives with workers' control are at the heart of a new "caring economy" which puts people above private profit.
Not surprisingly, the US government has reacted badly, and engaged in non-stop aggressive sabotage and propaganda against this peaceful and democratic revolution. They backed a coup in 2002 when president Hugo Chávez was kidnapped for two days before millions of his supporters rose up and the army rank-and-file rebelled and refused to gun them down.
Since then a solidarity network has been building worldwide, and in London we have regular meetings and events to raise awareness of how another world is more than possible, it's a reality in Venezuela. The festival in August is an ideal opportunity to experience for yourself the transformation taking place, so come along on the 23rd April (St George's day) and find out more. (Please note, alcohol will not be served so bring your own!)
