hands off venezuela | 28.01.2005 22:23 | London

On Wednesday February 2nd, Hands Off Venezuela is hosting a public meeting at Parliament to raise awareness of the popular, progressive government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Speakers include Ricardo Galindez, a trade unionist and founding member of the UNT, Venezuela's new "Bolivarian" general union, who is on a speaking tour of Europe.

John McDonnell MP, secretary of the Labour Representation Committee and sponsor of Early Day Motion 127 in support of the government and people of Venezuela, will also be speaking, as will Mick Rix, former General Secretary of ASLEF and convenor of the LRC. The meeting will be chaired by Jeremy Dear, General Secretary of the National Union of Journalists, and we are very privileged that the Venezuelan Ambassador, Alfredo Toro Hardy, will be present to say a few words on behalf of the Venezuelan government.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm and will be in the Grand Committee room, St Stephen's entrance, House of Commons (nearest tube Westminster). Everybody interested in expressing solidarity with the peaceful, democratic revolution in Venezuela is most welcome and we ask you to pass this invitation on to anyone else you think would like to join us on Wednesday. The full programme of Ricardo Galindez' tour is available on our website: www.handsoffvenezuela.org
