Counter inauguration demo US Embassy

guido | 21.01.2005 11:00 | London | World

Pictures and brief report from last nights counter inauguration ceremony in Grosvenor Square.

While Bush was being sworn in millions of people around the world were swearing at him and his neoconservative paymasters. In London the Stop the War Coalition organised a silent candlelit vigil at the US Embassy. 1 candle (100 in all) represented an estimated 1000 dead Iraq civilians in Bush/Blair's illegal and pointless war. At the end of the demo a coffin and wreath was laid at the entrance to the US embassy. One of the pallbearers was the TA soldier who has recently announced his refusal to go to Iraq. He is also setting up a support group for conscientous objectors in the armed forces. The demo finished with speeches from Bruce Kent (CND) and Tony Ben.

I was there and it was nice to be a part of. It didn't seem to be publicised very well. It was not even mentioned on the Stop the War website when I went on it the days before.

Pointless

More empty gestures. Really people what's the point, what did you achieve ?

The US election is over, Bush won by a landslide.

What's the point ?

NOT POINTLESS.

Point is people in the UK are actually shown to oppose the sham-democracy which allows a monster like Bush to dominate the world on the pretext of spreading freedom and democracy, for the sole benefit of USA neo-imperialism. His democracy prevents some blacks from voting and his freedom keeps people in prison without trial, while his army bombs innocent civilians.
