Hackney Council's "consultation" on privatising council housing

Hackney Independent | 25.11.2004 12:54 | Social Struggles | London

Council Tenants in Hackney have recently received a "test of opinion" questionnaire from the Council. This gives 3 options which will lead to the privatisation of council housing, and one grudging option for tenants to remain with the council.

The Council's preferred option is to hand over all council housing to an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) - a private company.

Hackney Independent has produced a leaflet on the test of opinion, which has now been distributed to over 3000 homes in the borough. It is also available for download here:

Vote option 4: "stay as you are" in the Decent Homes vote

Nobody trusts the council - and their preferred option is for an ALMO!

Don't believe council propaganda: the ALMO only gets extra funds for repairs etc if the council deliver a good service - and when's the last time they did that?

Be prepared to fight the ALMO when the council tries to impose it on us.
