Indymedia cinema at RampArt

IMCista | 20.11.2004 13:10 | London

An ongoing showcase of contemporary filmmakers who are finding new forms of cinema to show resistance to globalization throughout the world.

'NOT THIS TIME' the story of the Simon Jones Memorial Campaign, and other short anti-globalisation films will be shown from around 7pm as part of Indymedia cinema at RampArt Creative centre, Rampart Street, London E1.

Simon Jones was killed on 24th April 1998, aged 24, on his first day as a casual worker at Shoreham dock - another victim of our growing casual labour economy. He was sent to work unloading cargo inside a ship - one of the most dangerous jobs in the country - with only a few minutes "training". Within hours of starting work he was killed.
The death of Simon is tragic, but was no accident. In fact it was a direct result of the low paid 'flexible' market workplace which is now endemic throughout the country.

The growth of casualisation, where people are forced into low paid jobs with little or no training, no job security, no sick pay and no holiday pay means bigger profits for companies - and more deaths and injuries for the people working for them.
