When the Dust Finally Settles...

Jonny be Good | 18.10.2004 11:59 | European Social Forum | Analysis | Culture | Free Spaces | London

Having participated in this year's Social Forum, swapped with others about what else was going on throughout London and reading the Indymedia site, I can only but come to one conclusion.

There is room for everyone...the clowns ARE making a serious political action..in their way. I saw them mock fight the suits in street performance theatre, and it was the most inspiring thing i saw... :-) The SWP are ok. The clowns are ok. We are all ok. But we have to share space on this planet..the autonomous lead contingent just wanted to exist, and be heard. What's wrong with that? There must be room for all people's to contribute to the process, how they see fit. There is a middle ground. We can make the link, we can all be heard, we can do it better. I believe that we must all reflect on what has happened in the past year...ask ourselves why such high levels of conflict happened...if they did happen...did we enjoy ourselves? Did we learn anything? Did we leave with a sense of great energy to do more for our world?

I would like to think you are right on this matter.
However, the actions of certain stage managers betrays another story.

I would recommend to all readers of this that they find and read a biography of Lenin.
After this, you will start to appreciate the TRUE nature of the Russian so-called Revolution.

A comment made to me by a friend on this subject sums up the situation nicely I think.

"It's nice that they want to want to gatecrash your party, as it means they like what you're doing.
But, now you have to take the party somewhere else away from them".

The ESF is NOT the answer to all our ills, so, don't invest all of your time and effort into it.
It is merely part of an ongoing process.
So, if the newspaper sellers want to hijack it, let them if that's what makes them happy.

Just take the party somewhere else instead.

Their thought patterns are cultish, outmoded and circular at best, no better than religious zealots.

Meanwhile, the rest of us atheists can get on with the job of seeing things as they REALLY are, and coming up with practical, pragmatic solutions, with or without their self interested meddling.

And if they gatecrash again, you keep on moving.
Eventually they may just get the message.
