BNP scum take seat on barking & Dagenham Council

The openly-racist British National party last night won its first council seat in the capital since 1993, with a landslide victory in an east London borough.

In a byelection last night, the far-right party's candidate, Daniel Kelley, gained from Labour with a 470 majority at Barking and Dagenham Council's Goresbrook ward. The BNP had not fought the seat in the borough's last polls in 2002.

'Scuse my language but this is not good. Can I urge all Londoners appalled by this result to set aside differences on other issues and join this campaign?

Better find out WHY

17.09.2004 21:56

When something like this happens it is usually because the extreme candidate is addressing real concerns of the voters, concerns which the other candidates are refusing to address. Please do NOT misunderstand what I am saying. The concerns may be real but that doesn't mean I am saying that the solutions to these concerns offered by the BNP candidate are good solutions. Why they might be terrible solutions, but also the only ones anybody is offering, in whichc case the voters might be reasoning "at least this bloke cares about the issues that matter to us; the other jokers don't".

Remember, you don't get to pick what issues voters care about, they do. It doesn't matter one iota your judgement about where their true interests lie, they get to decide that. So better find out, what are these people concerned about, what problems do they want solved, and what are YOUR solutions.

And those of you who imagine that you should just go in there and "do something" -- you mean you DON'T believe those voters have the right to make their own (perhaps stupid) decisions? Well you better drop that attitude fast if you expect them to listen to you. Anybody came around me all high and mighty like he knew best what was in my own interest, he knew better than I did what I wanted, and I'd be mighty quick to tell that person to go jump in a lake. Wouldn't you? Well why do you expect these folks who chose a BNP rep to be any different.

no- wwon`t support UAF. UAF support the same old failed tactics, which have failed miserably against the BNP over the last few years, its not a matter of unity, its new tactics which are required

What are these "new tactics" of which you speak?

Providing they do not involve pandering to the Nazis own agenda I am prepared to give them a go, but I think you need to be a bit more specific.
