No Borders Camp in Perpignan France

No Borders | 28.08.2004 11:26 | Migration | London

The No Borders peace camp due to be held at a detention centre near Perpignan, southern France was moved to a different location after the authorities decided to empty the centre of the 'sans papiers' (people without papers)and close it for 10 days 'for repairs'.

A representative of the 'sans papiers' told the activists that those released were then able to work and in order to avoid any repurcussions for them no actions should be undertaken. For many 'sans papiers' in France this is one of the only times of the year they can find work due to the demand for grape pickers. It was unclear what would happen to the 'sans papiers' in the future.
