Unjust trade rules, backed by rich country governments, keep millions of people in poverty around the world and harm our environment. The UK Government says warm words about making world trade justice fair, but its policies still harm both people and planet.

Join thousands of campaigners and cast your vote in favour of Trade Justice on the opening day of the Labour Party conference. It is a crucial opportunity to build momentum for Trade Justice in the run-up to 2005, when the UK will be in a unique and powerful position on the international stage. As host to the G8 summit of industrialised countries and holder of the EU presidency, the UK Government has a real chance to make a difference to world poverty and the environment - and we want to make sure they don't waste it.
Next year is going to be a very big year for the UK and for the world. Vote for Trade Justice in Brighton is an unmissable event kick starting the action ready for 2005.

Preparing for Ballot on the Beach:
* Bring your Vote for Trade Justice ballot card - Please bring your own ballot card to Brighton, and any more you may have collected. Don't worry if you haven't got one yet - there'll be plenty available on the day.
* Pots and pans After we cast our votes, we will be holding a 2-minute mass noise for Trade Justice. In solidarity with campaigners in developing countries, we encourage you to bring pots and pans to bang together to protest at how unfair international trade rules are depriving people of their livelihoods. If you can't carry a small pot or pan, a small drum will do!!
* Get the message across with banners and costumes Bring banners to show where you have come from, and feel free to bring crazy costumes or symbols that will highlight the call for Trade Justice and add to the carnival atmosphere. NB. Remember that it can be windy along the seafront, so please don't bring anything that could accidentally cause harm to others.
* Trade Justice badges If you don't yet have the Trade Justice symbol - the Trade Justice scales badge, order one now from CAFOD, Christian Aid, WDM, SCIAF, Tearfund or Traidcraft to wear on the day.
* MPs Whilst this day is not aimed at lobbying MPs, if you have a Labour MP who you have met in the past, do let them know that you plan to be in Brighton for this event.
* Dress - Remember an umbrella and your sunglasses - be prepared for all eventualities. Of course, if you have a 'Trade Justice' costume, bring it along.
* Food and drink Some refreshments can be bought in Brighton and there will be a Fairtrade café, but there may be long queues, so it is advisable to bring your own.

2005 Pre-G8 Campaign:
Social movements, mass organisations, and local and national coalitions from all over the world will join together for the Peoples' Week of Action for Trade Justice from 10-16 April 2005. This will be the biggest mobilisation yet against poverty.
Our six key demands:
* The EU to agree now to an end date for eliminating agricultural export subsidies.
* The EU to agree that its position for WTO agriculture negotiations is that developing countries can self-select food security products to be exempt from any further liberalisation.
* The IMF and World Bank to stop imposing trade conditions on poor countries.
* The EU to withdraw its demand that water is included in GATS.
* The UK Government to oppose any restrictions on the ability of governments to regulate foreign investment in accordance with their development and environmental needs.
* The UK Government (and EU) to regulate companies so that they are held accountable for their social and environmental impacts at home and abroad; to promote core labour standards for all workers by strengthening the role of the ILO in promoting global compliance; to actively support the UN Human Rights Norms for Business.
