What a load of microfascist crap! Smash social cleansing!
09.08.2004 23:18
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/08/295956.html
This murdered "drug dealer" is probably a low-level commodity supplier, akin in sociological terms to a pub landlord or someone who runs a small shop, or to a worker who is employed at McDonald's or an arms factory. Is anyone seriously suggesting that murdering workers who work at McDonald's is a solution to global capitalism? Should we "clean up" working class communities by kicking out all the people who work for unsavoury companies, or who have served in the imperialist armed forces? No? Then why is it any different that this worker happens to work in a sector of the economy which the bourgeois state has criminalised?
Is drug dealing any more harmful than the effects of McDonald's or the arms trade? No. So why does it suddenly get registered in a different discourse?
This reeks of microfascism. Whoever posted this is registering drugs issues in the wrong register, as issues of personal depravity on the part of those involved in the drug industry and of hollywood-style good and evil, instead of as a social issue connected to capitalist society. You classify human beings as dirt to be "cleaned up" by means of genocidal methods. And you call this "progress"! It is simply a step back to the worst discourses of totalitarianism.
"Progress" would, rather, mean:
1) legalize drugs
2) stop the war on drugs in the west, e.g. the Rainbow Farm massacre and the murder of Peter McMurphy
3) stop the global war on drugs, e.g. the genocide and forced displacement of the peasants of Colombia by American chemical warfare
In any case, how do you know who did the murder? It could have been rival drug gangs. It could have been undercover cops. It could have been neo-Nazis. It could have been some guy his wife was having an affair with. Progress? Clean-up? Fuck off.

You missed the point...

I guess there's too much anti-crime crap comes out which really isn't funny, for me to get the joke... (see comment above for details)
I did see the penguin and wondered what it was there for, though...
Andy
But seriously folks...

Indeed it was a rather silly posting, and I honestly didn't expect it to stay up for more than five minutes. And I don't think that Indymedia is to be taken too seriously either, however... I see what you mean (from that other ridiculous posting - from Paul-whoever), about anti-crime stuff in general though. I suppose my position on drugs would be to ignore them, as I have no interest there. As a recovering wino it would be easy for me to get raging about drugs in general, but I think that'd be me projecting something else onto them. Most of the bourgeois terror of drugs (hence the 'war on drugs' etc.) is indeed a projection of their terror of working-class lawlessness in general, and also of the poverty that they ride on the back of. TRHey don't like to see it but they don't want to give up their privileges either. You should read 'Craze', Jessica Warner, on this. Also pretty good, albeit with a different focus, is 'Whiteout', Cockburn & St. Clair. OK so, that's the serious stuff out of the way, I must get back to me penguins now...
