Under the proposals suggested by the Blair strategy unit they would do away with secured tenancies in favour of a fixed term contract of five or ten years.
The arguments for this proposal centres on the blame for long housing waiting lists and the housing benefit system, which the unit says hands tenants `effective property rights`.
This argument is preposterous, illogical and an excuse in line privatisation plans and the future agenda of disenfranchisement of tenants.
Any suggestion or faith remonstrated in a Labour backbench backlash to the proposals to rewrite labour’s history of protecting tenants rights are illusionary as Prescott’s & Hill’s determination and belligerence in the face of mounting argument against privatisation has not been shifted by either campaign group or quango argument for real choice.
The argument for a shift in tactics to street demonstrations, rent strikes and a concerted national campaign informing tenants of such proposals is needed. The threat to our right of a home and security within it is dangerously close to being lost forever.

FIGHT AGAINST THE HOUSING CRISIS

There is a housing crisis bought on from the usual absolute pursuit of profit. People are living in FEAR. Either they are worried about paying the rent, the `value` of thier home dropping or simply that they will never be able too `own` a property. All of this as our so called Leaders bomb other countrys homes, hospitals and schools, in the name of freedom.
What a marvellous way to pacify a population.
RISE, LET OUR ACTIONS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. LET NO ESATE AGENT LIVE IN IGNORANCE. NO HOUSING DEPARTMENT BE UNSURE OF THE ISSUES. NO PROPERTY DEVELOPERS FINISHING ON TIME. RISE
POWER 2 THE PEOPLE

It's time for action, for protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, rent strikes!

Keep posting your reports, it's useful stuff. I've long agreed it is time for fightback, protest, demonstrate, rent strikes, sit-ins, collective action is long overdue for us tenants like never before. We've tried as non-political tenant activists throughout the 1990's the nicey-nicey arguments, the debates, the pointless lobbying of parliament and of councillors and MPs with not a milimetre move in policy direction.
