Join us on Sat 12th June to map out possible projects and strategies around the european social forum planned for October this year... from supporting existing projects like the NOMAD DIY open source translation infrastructure, to supporting autonomous spaces and using wi-fi to link spaces inside the ESF, outside the ESF and on the streets, radio and video streaming, alternative media centres and reporting, experimental media labs etc etc
Some initiatives are underway already, others are yet to be imagined...
"Alt Media Tech Assembly"
Weaving a Web Around the ESF...
Saturday 12th June 1-5pm

BUSES: 48, 55, 56
TRAIN: Clapton

Whatever you think about the ESF itself and its rotten process, tens of thousands of people will still flock to london, autonomous spaces, protests and actions will go ahead, while official tech seminars will mix with unofficial interventions. The cultural commons of alternative media and creative technology will be needed to support a wide variety of activities, while at the same time the chaos of energy around the ESF event will provide a platform for the demonstration and development of alternative projects and politics, cross fertilisation and synergy.
The main European Creative Forum (ECF) assembly (@1pm) on Sat 12th June will include short updates on developing projects and initiatives before the afternoon breaks into parallel sessions including the Alt Media Tech Assembly - which is where we can look at concrete projects, see what resources and skills are available and list those we need, and start co-ordinating.
Short updates in the main assembly will include a brief "where we're at" with autonomous spaces and...
Indymedia Network Projects - Update on the various ideas being discussed in the Indymedia UK Network around the ESF in London 2004. From alternative media centres to autonomous workshops... Different strategies and different ideas, a pick and mix proposition!
Media Culture and Communications Rights Network - Organising outside the official ESF process an evolving group of electronic networks and campaign groups, from the Electro-hippies to Privacy International, are working on several initiatives around the ESF.... from trying to put these issues on the ESF map, to a one day dedicated event, the European Forum on Communications Rights.
Then we split into the alt tech media meeting for the rest if the afternoon.
NB the actual ECF event runs from 12noon until 1am... so after all the tech talk there's plenty of opportunity to kick back, hear some tunes, watch some films and drink some beer :) There may also be space to continue discussions on sunday if there's the momentum...
