Rollright Stones vandalised

Casparian Aremi | 05.04.2004 15:23 | London | Oxford

The Rollright Stones, a large ancient stone circle in Oxdordshire, were vandalised last weekend, with yellow paint sprayed over every stone, causing upwards of £200,000 damage.

English Herritage and the National Trust have inspected the damage, and have arranged experts who have worked on repairing damage at Avebury to assist the Rollright Trust, owners of the stones.

It is thought the vandalism took place between 8 and 9am on April 1st, as the paint was still wet when wardons arrived on site.

A reward will be offered for any information which leads to the conviction for someone of this crime. Pledges are being asked for by the Rollright Trust, Pagan Federation, WiccaUK and other pagan organisations.
