Zaytoun.co.uk is Uk's first volunteer non-profit project to import fair trade palestinian organic olive oil to the UK.

Zaytoun.co.uk is Uk's first volunteer non-profit project to import fair trade palestinian organic olive oil to the UK.

The oil is imported from farmers worse hit by the current political crisis in Palestine.

The project needs help from solidarty groups & individuals in order to meet the first 5000 bottle order target.

The agricultural economy, which is one of the major arteries of the Palestinian economy, has been significantly sabotaged as part of the Occupation.

65% of Palestinian families live in rural areas and are connected to agriculture in some form.

The Israeli government is working on destroying rural livelihoods through the confiscation of land, uprooting of trees, controlling of water sources, denying access to land and the obstruction of marketing, all of which is escalating with the building of the apartheid wall.

www.Zaytoun.co.uk attempts to seek a practical means of assisting the Palestinian People and would appreciate any help in raising the profile of the project.

Flyers are available for download on the website.

Thank you.

The response we have had to this initiative has been fantastic. We were aiming to collect pledges to order five thousand 500ml bottles of oil, which seemed a near impossible feat, and the reality has been that we are able to order double this quantity.

We will be ordering a surplus of oil in this order so if you know of anyone who would like to buy the oil but hasn’t managed to place an order yet, or you think you would like to order again from Zaytoun, please do get in touch.

We hope that we can secure the funds to keep ordering on a rolling basis so that Zaytoun will have a stock of oil available for immediate sale.

Zaytoun has started to receive orders from wholesalers as a result of people asking them to stock Palestinian olive oil. The word of mouth marketing of this project is fantastic and we hope it will continue. Thanks once again for your enthusiasm and support – we couldn’t have done this without you!!

Please keep checking the website  http://zaytoun.co.uk for updates.

Zaytoun is being set up with a dual aim of finding a way to lend economic support to Palestinian’s through solidarity buying, primarily of olive oil, and to use the olive oil as a campaigning and educational tool.

We are putting together ideas of how we can couple the selling of olive with initiatives to inform about the brutality of the Occupation. An initial aspect of this is looking for funding to print leaflets and posters, which will include information about the farmers we are buying oil from and the conditions they are living under.

Ideas of how we can form links with the communities we buy oil from ideas have included planting olive trees, fundraising to support localised olive processing technologies (restriction of movement has led to olives spoiling before they can reach regional pressing facilities), organising a UK speaking tour of someone from a West Bank farming community, buying a digital camera so that a community that we are buying oil from can keep us informed via the web site …your campaigning and fundraising ideas would be much appreciated.

Zaytoun is also looking at other products that it may be practical to sell to UK solidarity buyers. Crafts are available through Hadeel and Support Palestine (see links page) so we are looking at za’atar, almonds, couscous and would also like to sell olive oil soap.

Once again thanks for all your support
