The BNP demonstration outside NUJ headquarters in London turned out to be a complete embarassment as they were faced by a taunting counter-demo over twice the size. Less than fifty BNP activists were ringed in police across the road from the NUJ HQ and failed to make themselves heard over chants of "Nazi scum - off our streets", "Hitler - never again" and a rousing sing-a-long "There's many, many more of us than you".
The counter-summit, organised by the NUJ (www.nuj.org.uk) and supported by Unite Against Facism (www.uaf.org.uk), numbered over 100 people. Jeremy Dear, the NUJ's General Secretary, said that the BNP were attempting to intimidate journalists in the run-up to the local and European elections.

What amazed me was how easy it was to shut the BNP organisers up - after all, they are supposed to be a race war vanguard...
As an NUJ member, I'd like to thank the magnificent solidarity shown by colleagues from ISTC, PCS, AMICUS, UNISON and doubtless others.
