where are you when people need you?

where was everyone for the thessalonika protest in london today (sat 15th)?t

An action was called for 1pm at Conduit Street in London today, in support of Simon Chapman
and the other Thessaloniki hunger strikers, who are now very ill in hospital. The few who turned
up went along to the Greek ambassador's residence in Upper Brook Street, as we had done last
Saturday. By 1.35 there were still only 5 people there for the action, so we left, as only 2 of us
had anything to make a noise with. It may be that other people turned up later, but if the call is
1pm, is it too much to ask for people to be there, when activists' lives are utterly at risk. It could
happen to any of us. Where is everyone?

When was it announced?

I was still reading the announcement of the protest for the first time when I would have had to be on the train to get there. This *is* important, any yes of course we should all be there, but we need to actually know when and where something is being organised. (Otherwise we'll have a couple of people today, a couple tomorrow, but never the big crowd needed to show the level of support.) So let's announce the next solidarity demo NOW and make sure EVERYONE knows about it.

Don't let them die

Sorry, couldn't come, but I dont live in London and I had to get to another demo
in Maidstone (see posting on Indymedia)

HOWEVER, with my trusty supply of postcards on this,I gave them out to those on my demo
asking them to send to Greek embassy in solidarity.
If those who cannot make it to demos have a supply of posters etc, this can help keep
up the pressure.

let's do better next time

At 2pm there were about 15-20 of us there (some of us can't always get there at the start and it seems reasonable to suppose the demo will still be happening an hour in), but no banners etc. We were assembled in a quiet side street outside a small shop front which was closed for the weekend but said GREECE on top. It seemed pointless.
