LONDON EARTH FIRST!

Freedom Bookshop

What is Earth First!

The general principles behind Earth First! is non-hierarchical organisation and the use of direct action to confront, stop and eventually reverse the forces that are responsible for the destruction of the Earth and its inhabitants. EF! is not a cohesive group or campaign, but a convenient banner for people who share similar philosophies to work under.

Why London?
For too long now there has been a vacuum in London for anarchists with a strong ecological perspective.

London EF! is being launched to try and create a home for those interested in exploring both radical thought and praxis.

London EF! will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. Meetings are open and all decisions will be made by consensus.

Don't you mean relaunched?

If memory serves me correctly, there has already been a london ef!
(in the early/mid 90's). The rise of RTS and a strong focus on anti-genetics campaigning by many activists involved in ef! may have led to the decline of the group as it existed. However, there is usally a fairly strong London crowd at ef! gatherings so clearly people are still associating themselves with 'the network'.

I guess it would be great for a strong ef! identity to emerge in london and it may help create a focus but it might simply add another round of meetings for people in london to be daunted by rather than actually create a group doing good actions. much of 'the old crowd' already continue to work with each other (in various guises) so I would be interested to know whether the re-launch is about bringing in new people or creating an indentity.

good luck either way, it would be great to have more people using the ef! banner.

Yes & No

Yes, RTS was originally part of the EF network. Unfortunately, RTS is not really an active group anymore (give or take the odd attempt by people to have RTS parties).

However, it isn't really a re-launch as it is nearly all people that weren't involved in RTS that have discussed creating this network.

The idea of (re)launching a London EF came out of many discussions with Londoners at the EF Gathering as well as with EFers in Leeds and Brighton and elsewhere that feel they haven't got anyone they can work with in London (this might just be the opinion of one or two people)

They idea is to bring existing activists together under a banner, but hopefully it will also become a good entry point for people new to activism.

Lets not worry where it's come from, etc. Lets just all be there.
