Bush Demonstrations

President Bush of America is to visit the United Kingdom of Great Britain between the 19th to 21st of November on his first ever State Visit.

It is also announced that there will be a Chris Eubank style demonstration on all of these 3 days. We ask people to drive around the centre of London and horn as loudly as they can from early morning till late evening. All cars should carry anti-war messages.

Chris Eubank drove around Parliament Square, up Parliament Street, into Whitehall, to Trafalgar Square and back down into Whitehall, Parliament Street and around Parliament Square.

Our demonstration will also take in Birdcage Walk, the front of Buckingham Palace (Queen Victoria Memorial), The Mall and Horseguards Road.

Please remember the police have no right to detain you. You will not be breaking any laws!!! The police tried to stop Eubank but unsuccessfully. Now it's our turn to let Bush know what we think of him.

I also suggest we continue until Blair resigns from his role as PM.

OIL?

22.10.2003 18:19

do you not think it's in slightly poor taste to enourage people to drive around using oil, to protest against a war fought for oil and paid for with thousands of Iraqi lives?

It's not really the most coherent position that i have come across-

critical mass yes - mass motoring no

Not in poor taste

In reply to Mayler's comments, I don't think this type of protest is in poor taste and I don't see how it could even be construed as such. We have to do whatever it takes to get the leaders to listen to us. Let's face it, if a peaceful protest by 2 million plus of us doesn't get the leaders listening to us, then we need to find other ways. I, for one, will be joining and hooting on the above mentioned dates.

One question though, would it not be better to just block off central London like the truck drivers did in the petrol crisis of a few years back? We mustn't forget that the government only listened to them after their strike!!

Power is with the people. It's up to us to use it. Governments only listen when they're afraid. I say, let's scare the hell out of them!!

Join us in the mass protest!!

why all the carping ?

23.10.2003 14:18

at last an inspired suggestion for some action and someone has to start carping on about using oil... o well, it takes me back a few years ! i remember the 1980s, discussing a group action for an anti-nuclear protest, when i casually said i knew a place to photocopy the planned leaflet more cheaply. suddenly, a woman objected, saying it would be using electricity and therefore making use of nuclear power... what a twat ! (the same person would also try to veto ideas if they were suggested by men. very dworkinist, but then it was the 1980s), and with that kind of opposition, no wonder thatcher stayed in power so long. equally, with THIS kind of ''opposition'' NOW, no wonder blair bets away with it all!
