Why are the organisers of the arms fair still going ahead?

26.08.2003 12:27

I can't understand why the organisers of the arms fair are still going ahead with the arms fair are they mad? Don't they know from past mass protests like Seatle, Prague, and Genoa that tens of thousands of protesters are going to converge on the arms fair and smash it? If they don't know that then when the anti-arms fair comes on the 9th and the 10th of September they wont know what hit them. The local met police are in for a surpise too, they will be facing hardened European activists like Ya Basta and the Greek anarchists who recently caused chaos at the EU summit in June.

Picket Lockheed Martin!
5th of September

Lets get the week of action against the arms trade off to a flying start with a picket of the worst arms company in the world Lockheed Martin. They still manufacture anti-personnel land mines, which they flog for as little as £2 each. Across the world, landmines claim a new victim every twenty minutes, that’s more than 26,000, mostly civilian, deaths and injuries each year.

Lockheed also produce the AUP-3(M) depleted uranium missiles that have been deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. When a DU shell explodes, it sends out contaminated dust particles small enough to be inhaled - high doses kill, low levels cause cancer. Since the last Gulf War incidences of leukaemia and Hodgkins disease in Iraq have increased tenfold, as has the proportion of babies born with birth defects, that is without heads, brains, spines and limbs.

Their UK head office is at floor 2, Berkshire House, 168 - 173 High Holborn. It is dead easy to find it is on the corner of High Holborn and Endell Street, slap bang in the centre of London. Nearest tubes Covent Garden, Holborn and Tottenham Court Road. Meet up at 12noon on Friday the 5th of September outside their offices. Bring banners, whistles, drums etc.

Picket Spearhead!
Wednesday 3rd September, 12 noon at their Headquarters, the Apex Tower, New Malden, Surrey.

Spearhead Exhibitions are the organisers of DSEi (Defence Systems & Equipment International), Europe’s largest arms fair, to be held at ExCeL, London Docklands from 9 – 12 September.

By actively helping in the distribution of lethal weapons and profiting from a murderous industry Spearhead are complicit in murder and violence committed all over the world including that of some of the most oppressive regimes.

We want to give their employees some food for thought in their lunch hour!

There will be leaflets to hand out. Please bring banners etc if possible.

Spearhead is based at the Apex Tower, New Malden, Surrey KT3 4DQ.

The Apex Tower is right near New Malden train station on the corner of High St and Grafton Rd – you can’t miss it! Trains go from London Waterloo.

Buses from Kingston and Sutton: 213, K1.

Picket called by London Youth & Student CND. For more info call 020 7607 3616 or email  london_yscnd@yahoo.co.uk. Youth & Student CND is a supporting group of Disarm DSEi. For information about the Disarm DSEi week of protest from 6-12 September see www.dsei.org.

Lockheed Martin Location?

04.09.2003 10:36

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Lockheed Martin is no longer at Berkshire House 168-173 High Holborn
There are other offices at 22 Carlisle Place, SW1 and Berkeley Square House, Berkeley Square W1X

Question

Lockeed mystery

07.09.2003 15:57

Went to Cardinal Manning House, 22 Carlisle Place SW1
yesterday. (NOTE: 22 is on the corner, out of numbering
sequence. The very, very expensive house where it ought
to be has a small sign saying "not here".)

Lockheed are being very, very shy about their presence.
There's a shipping company on the ground floor, an
oil trader called RheinOel somewhere in the building,
and Food From Britain on the fourth floor.

AH! there's a 5 September press release on Lockheed's
site giving the Carlisle Place number: the PR person is
