AL-JAZEERA CHALLENGES ISRAELI COMMENTATOR ON TERROR ATTACK

The Qatar-based Arabic news network Al-Jazeera interviewed Israeli television presenter Shlomo Ganor soon after Tuesday’s bombing attack in the Israeli city Rosh Ha’ayin. A short discussion ensued as to the verbal definition of the attack, Ganor calling it a suicide terror attack, while the anchorwoman suggested labeling it a “sacrificial operation.”

The presenter challenged Ganor about Israel’s role in the current Hudna, the temporary cease-fire, insinuating that the latest attack is in retaliation for IDF raids on Nablus last week, in which two terrorists were killed. “The Hudna was drawn between the Palestinian factions,” said Ganor. “Israel isn’t considered a party to the agreement.”

The presenter asked about the operations carried out by Israel, referring to them as violations of the Hudna. Ganor said that all such operations are defensive, since the Hamas and other terror organizations have been using the Hudna to reorganize and improve their weapons arsenal.

The station cut off Ganor mid-sentence.

Al-Jazeera television station is considered relatively objective, but has certain restraints as to content it can and cannot broadcast. Whether reflecting the ideas of the station or the specific presenter, the Israeli commentator was clearly not given sufficient time to get his point across.
