Info from Globalise Resistance (GR) on their activities for DSEi anti-arms fair protests in September. GR are one of over forty groups organising against the arms fair.

Main GR demo plus Prop Making Weekend.

STOP THE ARMS FAIR

Defence Systems and Equipment International (DSEi), Europe's biggest arms fair is setting up shop in London this September. Suitably enough, the cash registers will be going kerching! in the run up to and on 11 September.

The list of companies exhibiting at the arms fair is lengthy to say the least and includes all your favourite arms companies; Caterpillar Defence Products UK, Lockheed Martin Corporation US/UK, Raytheon Company USA and Rolls Royce to name but a few. Unfortunately, finding a list of invited generals, government officials and other such murderous people is more difficult. Last time the fair was held in London (two years ago) the arms fair was the only thing going on in Britain which didn't stop after the attacks on the World Trade Centre.

Two years ago there were 664 exhibitors and buyers from 82 countries. New missiles were unveiled and 6 warships were anchored in the Thames nearby. It was a huge gathering of the despicable.

This year, the Fair will continue to sell arms to governments who could otherwise be spending on health care and education, and making the world a more dangerous place.

An umbrella group has come together to oppose the arms fair. Disarm DSEi has around 40 affiliates and groups either organising events or coming along to what's on offer. There's going to be activity happening throughout the arms fair and before.

Globalise Resistance is prioritising just a couple, but details of everything can be found on the DSEi website:  http://www.desi.org

Globalise Resistance are co-organising a protest at the very beginning of the arms fair:

Tuesday 9 September from 8.30am
Cundy Road Recreation Ground E16
(Prince Regent DLR station)

There is also a day of direct action on Wednesday 10 September, for getting involved in that, please ring the GR office 020 7053 2071

TANK BUILDING WEEKEND.

To get propoerly prepared and in the mood for the protests against the Arms Fair, we are organising a weekend of prop and banner making. This will be on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August. Venue just needs confirmation, so I'll announce it in the next mail-out. We have ambitious ideas for this weekend, so the more help the better.

Also if anyone has any materials which might come in handy, I'm thinking here of things like polystyrene blocks, tubes or pipes, paint and cardboard, but other ideas and offers welcome, please get in touch and we'll arrange a collection if necessary.

The web address is actually www.dsei.org :-)

Also, just to be really pedantic, the number of affiliated groups was at the last count 51.
