Flood Victims blockade Government Office in Leeds

Flood victims from Yorkshire and Humberside have taken up temporary residence outside the Government Office in Leeds to protest at its continued promotion of airport expansion. The "Climate Camp" style action used pop-up tents to set up camp and blockade the main entrance.

A Climate Camp visits the Government Office in Leeds

Residents from flood stricken areas of Yorkshire and Humberside today blockaded the Government Office in Leeds to protest at its continued promotion of airport expansion. Inspired by last year’s camp for climate action at Heathrow, the protestors from Hull, South Yorkshire and the Calder Valley used pop-up tents to set up camp outside the main entrance.

Tour for Climate Action launch gathering next week

The Student Climate Project is having a Launch Gathering at The Common Place in Leeds from 4pm on the 19th January till 4pm the following day. Crash space and vegan food is to be had by all. The main focus of the gathering is to plan for our Tour of Climate Action, which will see exciting events take place on campuses across the UK throughout 2008.

Anti-deportation campaigner in court after XL Airways protest

An anti-deportation campaigner will appear in Court in Horsham tomorrow (Thursday, January 10th) following a peaceful protest at XL Airways offices in Crawley, near Gatwick Airport, last August. D. Thompson, who lives in Bradford, is charged with aggravated trespass, having locked himself onto the banisters in the reception of XL headquarters.

Yorkshire Development Agency given a lesson about flooding

Yorkshire Forward, Yorkshire's Regional Development Agency which famously starves grass roots community initiatives of funds whilst giving millions to big business, today held a flooding "summit". The summit was closed to local people, and attempted to airbrush climate change from the story. Locals turned up anyway to make the truth known.

This morning a group of 18 climate change campaigners briefly occupied the offices of Bridgepoint Capital in Warwick Street in London. Bridgepoint Capital, a private equity firm, bought Leeds Bradford Airport in April and is presseing for further expansion.

Climate Camp 2007 will take place fromAugust 14th to 21st. Planning is already well under way and we need everyone to get involved and make it happen.
The next national organsing gathering will be in Leeds on Sat and Sun Feb 17th/18th. It will be at The Common Place in Leeds city centre and vegan food, accommodationand creche will be provided (please contact us with accommodation, creche or any other needs though so we can plan ahead).
