Altho Anarchists have been at the forefront, along with Marxists, of opposing imperialism and war, there is still a lingering Islamophobia in the Anarchist movement.
Too many Anarchists sympathise with Charlie Hebdo and have illusions about free speech, and no qualms about drawing the Prophet (PBUH).
Too many Anarchists are hardcore atheists, and spend too much time bashing religion.
Too many Anarchists believe that they should challenge groups like Hizb Ut Tahir and consider these groups to be similar to Fascism. In fact, there were attempts by Anarchists to hold demonstrations against Islam4UK.
While Islam4UK and similar groups are not representative of mainstream Islam, it is wrong to treat them as Fascists.
Too many Anarchists uphold things such as LGBT rights, abortion rights and an immediate anti religion position, and thereby disrespect the beliefs of Muslims.
If Anarchists want to engage with Muslims, they should think about these things.
