How do you know all the bugs were removed ? Last year we were told the same thing and yet another was found in the kitchen. Sumac needs to do what a number of us were saying last year, spend the money and get in a proper company that has the experience and skills to detect ALL the bugs that were planted

There has already been one conviction based in part on what the cops learnt from listening in at the sumac, how many more must there be before you are prepared to do the right thing ?

any public space, especially politically active, you have to assume is bugged. Even if all were removed, how do you know another one doesn't get planted, or someone's phone etc is switched on!

Organise and do be cautious, but only at appropriate levels for different things.

(or sit at home writing nonsense on here/find an excuse to do nothing/stir up paranoia/etc)

sigh

This is a little different because in the case of Sumac we had a situation where some people have been telling others the space was safe and previously discovered listening devices had all been removed when it later turned out not all had been. As these same devices were used in the evidence of at least two court cases perhaps there is an understanding of the cynical viewpoint a few people have taken.

We know Mark Kennedy/Stone planted bugs at a large number of locations and it is highly likely many of them are still active today.

Bugger that!

11.11.2014 22:31

These comments are an excellent example of missing the point! For the record, no bug has ever been found in the Sumac Centre. BUT it's always been assumed that the Centre can never be considered "secure" in that sense, so sensible people wouldn't have conversations they might not want to be overheard in there. At an open gathering, which anyone can attend anyway, it's not a relevant issue. So no more paranoia and inappropriate scaremongering about what is in any case an open-access venue thanks!

Some realism please

18.11.2014 15:34

Yes there were microphones planted at the SUMAC centre, we found four and thought that was it, we were wrong - live with it. The one in the kitchen was probably a dead unit anyway so no harm, no foul.

We simply don't have the money to employ a company that can check for more, feel free to pay yourself if it bothers you that much otherwise just think about what you are saying when you are there.

My name is not important but I am a SUMAC user and collective member
