Police raid server, Bristol IMC closing down

On of Bristol IMC collective | 27.08.2014 15:35 | Indymedia | Policing

Bristol Indymedia site is now officially closed for good following a police raid targeting an anarchist group.

Bristol and South West region has seen recently a number of attacks and actions on State equipment and places of repression, attacks that were reported on Bristol Indymedia.

Bristol and Avon police obtained a court order to physically access the Bristol Indymedia server and all of its records in conjunction with their investigation into people who may have been involved. Regretfully owing to an administration error by one of the techies all IP address details for the past 16 months were still stored on the server and these have been recorded by the police. We advise people to make personal security arrangements with this in mind.

We are working with a local firm of solicitors but at present do not anticipate the Bristol Indymedia site ever returning to a open publishing model although the diary page will remain.

The power of the State when threatened can be immense and we have seen that this week.

Love and rage everybody.

This promoted article on BIMC seems to confirm that police have had access to the server:
 http://bristol.indymedia.org/2014/08/27/the-police-have-physically-accessed-the-bristol-indymedia-server/
...however, it does not mention anything about the last 16 months of IP addresses being stored, only warning users that from this point on, the site may be compromised.

If the claim that the last 16 months of IP addresses have also been compromised is true, could the BIMC article please be modified to include that statement? Otherwise it could easily be misinformation.

Sorry to hear guys but......

Sorry to hear of the police action here, perhaps after the attack on the gun training centre this sort of response by them was inevitible. Putting that to one side it is really not on to discover that since you moved to the new platform IP codes have been recorded by yourselves, questions need to be asked and an explanation given, activists have been put at risk because of this and the details discovered by the police will likely be used in any proecution.

HUGE fuck-up by Indymedia

28.08.2014 00:14

A huge fuck-up by Indymedia as regards IP addresses; but when you consider that when the actions of the Conspiracy Cells of Undercover Cops who committed these offences in the 1st place were subject to open criticism by other radicals on these pages, Indymedia then chose to remove pro-Cells responses which showed the pro-Cells supporter/s were anti-semitic, ketamine users, involved in attacks on anarchist and radical premises, apologists for the psychopathic criminal John Bowden, and sometimes followers of right-wing "neo-folk" music and of Nazi bands like Non etc. Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas. The whole Bristol (so-called) "anarchist" (so-called) "terror" scenario has been carefully set-up by the same State provocateurs who placed scum like Mark Kennedy into the movement, but Indymedia, despite constant warnings, wandered into an obvious trap that has now compromised the safety of thousands of other radicals

All the more tragic because at least some of the people responsible for creating this fuck-up were probably genuine (if wildly naive) radicals

Ignore 'Kev'

He's a serial troller who always posts the same lies and smears. He's either got serious mental health problems (paranoia, delusions) or he's just a troll posting lies useful to the state. You can find his/their posts on IMC UK going back a long way. And he knows absolutely fuck all about what he's posting about.

Why don't you fuck off and get a blog PC 'Kev'?

So, you are seriously telling us that a brand new website that was launched in the early part of this year has IP logs going back 16 months?

The time for an April Fool's Joke was almost immediately after the new site launched.......

Or perhaps you are a troll?
