Sun 31st August – Stop NATO action against securitisation and policing

Stop NATO Cymru and Anarchist Action Network | 26.08.2014 11:41 | NATO 2014 | Wales

Meet us at 3pm on Sunday 31st August at the security gates nearest to the Nye Bevan statue in Cardiff (west end of Queen Street, opposite the Castle) to make our feelings known.

In preparation for the NATO summit, the authorities have put a giant fucking wall around parts of Cardiff and Newport. Local people do not want this wall – it prevents access to public grounds and services, disrupts essential travel and is an ugly visible reminder of the increasingly militarised zone that Cardiff and Newport have become in advance of this Summit.

Whilst they are in no way equivalent, we are mindful of the daily plight of the Palestinian people, hemmed in by giant walls that prevent them from accessing sufficient provisions, medical care or shelter from the prolific murderous Israeli attacks that have recently claimed thousands of lives. We stand against all those states and corporations which would seek to profit from human misery, division and securitisation.

Meet us at 3pm on Sunday 31st August at the security gates nearest to the Nye Bevan statue in Cardiff (west end of Queen Street, opposite the Castle) to make our feelings known.

Bring Palestinian flags and banners.

At least consider whether wise to conflate unrelated fights. (not specific to this example)

Of course you MIGHT have an ideology that informs you that it would be possible, even desirable, to align all people on the same side of all fights. But even so you need to consider whether the desirable is also the possible.

It is my contention that we are NOT all on the same side on all issues and one of the problems we need to deal with is that reality. The reality that our allies in one fight might be on the opposite side in another and how do we manage to work with them in this case. To give an example, just because one is opposed to capitalism doesn't mean that one is opposed to eating meat.

Of course in considering questions of this sort where you are makes a difference. Perhaps you don't need want those who will exclude themselves if there is a conflation with an issue on which they are the other side.

So ...... do you REALLY want the "Zionists" to not support the effort against NATO? Or conceivably, those in favor of a strong NATO from supporting the Palestinian side?
