News update, this is ridiculous

Was advised by someone to read this site to get up dates on the anarchist and activist scene.

Most of the contributions here are absolute crap, it is difficult to read some of the posts and comments because the lack of knowledge displayed by people who seem to think their views are important is staggering.

Anarchism is discussed as though it is a viable sensible theory rather than a throwback to 19th Century Russian/French society.
The lack of even a basic understanding of economics is appalling when we consider the high education standards in this country.
NATO is viewed as some sort of enemy despite it being the organisation that has ensured the freedoms that many of the contributors here fail to even understand they have.
A passive acceptance of political Islamism pervades many of the posts and the sometimes blind eye turned to repeated anti-semitism in the name of protest against Israeli actions in the Middle East is disgusting.

I was told that this was once a very popular news site but that it has undergone a massive decline in the past couple of years, I am not at all surprised.

Perhaps he can't be arsed, I know I can't.

We now have a site where the main page now shows only those posts that the unelected, faceless, unacountable moderators decide are acceptable. Ever seen any reporting on this, ever seen any emails to the lists listing the reasons why some posts were chosen and some were not ?

The hiding policy now takes place in complete secret, there have been no emails to the Moderation list since July reporting why some posts have been hidden. In that period scores of posts have been hidden including a number that did not in any way break the editorial guidelines that supposidly provide the rules for what is hidden and what is not. At the same time a number of comments that make the highly racist and antisemitic call for "all the Jews to leave Palestine" have been allowed to stay up.

I am pleased this individual made the effort to comment at all because I know of many, many, many people who gave up on this site months ago and simply walked away without comment.

Not much of a surprise is it ?

When the moderation group is dominated by an individual so antisemitic that previous members of the collective walked away describing themselves as "on another planet" from him it's hardly surprising that the site is happy to host posts and comments from people who would be happy at a Klan meeting or David Irvin lecture.

But of course he had a tought time growing up in South Africa so we have to overlook it !

ftp and the excuses

27.08.2014 14:24

Anybody who was once involved in the UK collective and had the misfortune to have to work with ftp will know well his numerous excuses for the obvious antisemitism that he now no longer even bothers hiding. I too read the frankly pathetic piece that he wrote trying to excuse his antisemitism and his damage to the Indymedia UK project as a result of some problems when growing up. I would doubt even he really believes that nonsense.

The failure of Indymedia was certainly due to him as one of the major causes of the break up of the UK collective and the infamous 'fork', the result of which we see today - an Indymedia site that is a plae shadow of what it was and could have been.
