Francesco Bosso, artist, photographer and Italian interpreter of landscapes and wild nature in black and white, presents in Spoleto the complete triptych “WHITE GOLDEN DARK”, with the new project “After Dark” and the previous “White World” and “Golden Light”. The show is inserted in the official program of the FESTIVAL OF THE TWO WORLDS.
WHITE GOLDEN DARK, curated by Gianluca Marziani, is a triple voyage into the panoramic snapshot which transforms itself in pictorial matter; among infinitesimal variations on black and white and moving atmospheres, dreamlike abstractions and calibrated structures. Three words from each cycle that make up the triptych; three visual interiors that condense themselves in the dynamic rhythm of the colors: the white which lights up the optical fullness and suspends the physicality of the elements, the gold which adds the precious primordiality of the places, their long-time memory, the mineralized resistance that surpasses man, the dark which adds the odor of the night, the mystery of the hidden side, the profoundness behind every blinding light, behind every precious magic.
WHITE WORLD is the cycle of saturation, the vertigo of the sidereal white, the ecstasy that brings us towards necessary darkness. The narrated spaces confirm Bosso's pursuit of the picturesque and his abstract conscience, his expressive code that searches for the platonic ideal beyond the surface, the emotions beyond the objective appearance, the poetic act beyond the narrated fact.
GOLDEN LIGHT is a figurative immersion in the Icelandic countryside with which Bosso created an alchemical harmony; a dialogue of precious intonations that expresses itself in the sacral accuracy of the atmosphere, in the plastic volumes of the mountains, in the oiled density of the water; as if everything were made of mercury and captured the light, radiating metallic reflections and solarized rays. Here, the light expresses a modeled apex and becomes solid matter that profiles the volumes of the landscape to the point of rendering the color an epidermic and muscular sum.
AFTER DARK ideally proceeds the research of “Golden Light” along a gradual descent into darker tones, in the meticulous modulations of grey, between marked contrasts and the decisive abstraction of the framing. Here everything is pure essence, archetype of mental forms, sidereal geometry that exceeds the organic cycle of the naturist figuration. The image purifies itself from any iconographic dross, following the architectural imprinting of Cartier-Bresson, creating sublime visions that distance themselves from the terrain and design the unconscious.
Francesco Bosso, as always, favours modular black and white, made with multiple variations of grey and intermediate tonal scales. His expression reflects itself in a pictorial way, in the powerful naturalism of the uncontaminated landscape. A methodical and slow vision, fruit of the long waiting times in the predetermined spaces, of exquisite materials on which to print, of infinitesimally calibrated techniques. The result of his cycles is a suspended voyage, a gaseous stage of looking, pure abstraction inside the power of an undertaken path.
Marziani writes in the book “White World”: “Bosso's works are children of a respectful approach, soaked in lived experience and sense of roots. You understand that in his world history's precious machinery, ancient techniques of elaboration and printing, and refined papers on which the atemporal glances of the author take place – all coexist. You hear the echo of masters such as Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, John Sexton, Irving Penn and in general you feel the timeless traditions of a photographic approach that goes beyond trends, beyond pure tehcnology and beyond easy media effects.”
