Banner drop in Newport today against EADS

newport rising | 31.05.2014 13:12 | Anti-militarism | Terror War | Wales

As part of Newport Rising, there was a banner drop today off the footbridge and at the top of the Kingsway car park against warmongering Newport company EADS.

EADS is AIRBUS under another name, a major profiteer of war. The company manufactures the Eurofighter Typhoon Jet and 'drones' including some with nuclear warheads. EADS is also involved in the surveillance technology business. Under the name CASSIDIAN they have sponsored workshops at the Newport Council owned Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre.

The Celtic Manor, where the NATO Summit will be hosted, has held EADS events. EADS has helped to write the Newport City Council policy for the future of the city through Simon Gibson of WESLEY CLOVER, a sister company to The Celtic Manor. Both are owned by Terry Matthews. Gibson's report 'The ReNewport Report', proposes that Newport should become a 'Test Bed Laboratory' and a 'Safer City' like Singapore which has been a 'beneficiary' of EADS surveillance technology.

The NATO Summit is an opportunity for EADS to showcase its warmongering technology and increase its business through NATO procurement. EADS is a major player in the Arms Industry and makes huge profits from the death and mutilation of victims of war around the world.

EADS ?

EADS stop being called that nearly a year ago (they are Airbus now) probably best to try and stay up to date don't you think ?

a rose by any other name

Changing names and using many corporate identities is one way companies confuse the public about their identities. EADS adopted the Airbus identity in January 2014, not nearly a year ago, and is still better known as EADS in Newport where its huge logo was prominent on its building. But yes, officially it's now part of the Airbus group.

Confused

04.06.2014 10:25

So you are suggesting this company changed its name from an obscure unknown one (EADS) to a name with a global brand (Airbus) with the intention of "confusing the public about their identity" ?

Why not simply admit you got it wrong and aim to have updated banners etc next time.

EADS vs Airbus

The place is known primarily as EADS in Newport and the thing about Airbus is that without the 'Military' or 'Defence and Space' tagline, it sounds like some sort of airborne public transport service rather than a company involved in the killing business.

Suggest that anyone interested looks up EADS, Airbus Military, Airbus Defence and Space & Cassidian for starters.

Good to see your protest

We do annual protest at the Airbus Annual Shareholder Meeting in Amsterdam, and regulary go in there with a small share (for a 30 euro share you have the right of asking annoying questions in their meeting and spoil the party) See pictures at

re-branding

24.06.2014 11:20

Easy mistake to make, even when big multinational corporations regularly undergo "re-branding" to not seem so controversial, they can't shake off their old names as easy as they would like. Whatever they rename/rebrand themselves as, its the same old shitty warmongering turd.
