Aldermaston Women attend Serco AGM at Canary Wharf

Aldermaston Women | 09.05.2014 12:26 | Anti-Nuclear | Policing | Public sector cuts

Protest outside the AGM of Serco who are involved in running the Atomic Weapons Establishment among their many crimes.

Women from the Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp attended the Serco AGM yesterday within the Canary Wharf no protest zone.

Serco are one third partners in the privte consortium that manages the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire, alongside Jacobs Engineering and Lockheed Martin.

There seems to be a long list of groups with grievances against Serco. Outside their Canary Wharf hideout yesterday were protesters from the NHS, from We Own It and the probation union Napo.

Security was over the top but no arrests were made and despite threats to throw us off the estate and to encircle all three of us with crowd barriers, we were eventually left in peace.

Aldermaston Camp

There is no longer any permanent wimin's camp at Aldermaston, that closed in 2007 however a small group do still come along for the odd weekend linked to key aniverseries etc. Regretfully the camapign against new funding at Aldermaston failed so a decision was made tro regroup and move on to other campaigning activity.

I think it is worth recording that the Aldermaston women's camp closed because a small group tried to take the campaign into a direction that the majority did not want. This group ignored the views of the rest of us and simply closed the camp when others were away and stole all the tat that had been donated over the years including the tents, chairs and banners. The location of these items remains unknown to this day.
