Manchester Metropolitan University art students have turned used car parts into original pieces of art that are being auctioned online to raise money for 6 local charities.
Manchester based business Dronsfields have donated Mercedes car parts from their lot to the art students of Manchester Metropolitan University. The students then used the parts to create original pieces of art.
After being displayed at the Scrapyard Sculpture Exhibition at MMU, the pieces have been added to an online auction in order to raise money for a variety of local charities. The action can be accessed here - http://www.dronsfields.com/auction/
The sculptures range from abstract pieces to functional tables and chairs. One student has been inspired to start his own furniture business due to the success and popularity of his pieces.
The proceeds from the auction will be divided evenly between Joining Jack, Groundwork, Forever Manchester, The Christie at Oldham, Francis House and Kingfisher Community Special School.
The MMU students who volunteered to take part in this project include Chloe Herbert, Chris Thorpe, Amy Field, Jodie Cheung, Sue Rowlands, Alex Baker, Kieren March, Robin Broadley and Alyson Olson.
The 19 pieces have already raised £750. The auction will run until 5:30pm on Wednesday 30th April. MMU hope to raise over £1000 by then.
