Please don't miss the opportunity to catch a spectacular, entertaining and educational event in Sheffield on Thursday ...
Created by an artist, a scientist and an engineer, Painting the City Yellow will involve an experiment with the impressive fountains in Barker's Pool and the Peace Gardens, to mark the start of the Yorkshire 100 days cultural festival.
From 1 pm (Barker's Pool) and 2 pm (Peace Gardens) the fountains will turn the colour of the Tour de France winner's jersey - a vivid yellow.
At dusk the fountains in Barker's Pool will be lit as usual by blue lights, while the complex water feature in the Peace Gardens will be treated to special ultraviolet illumination. The result will be a burst of fluorescence as the organic dye reacts to the light.
The illuminations will continue throughout the evening and a number of tiny ultraviolet torches will be available for members of the public to see the colour effects at close quarters for themselves.
