Stephen Lawrence cover-up cop's bar in Menorca

DS John Davidson interviewed witness 24 hours after racist murder, who gave names and addresses of killers, but failed to act (he was pals with the gangster daddy of one of the killers).
He took his police pension and bought a bar in Menorca which he is now selling (can't guess why!).
Why not visit before he gets shot of it?

The Ellison report released today found that DS John Davidson, who was supposed to be investigating the murder of Stephen Lawrence, was corrupt and had links with the gangster father of one of his killers.

Though the earlier Macpherson report found there was no evidence that Davidson had tried to thwart the investigation, in particular because of any connection between him and Clifford Norris, the gangster father of David Norris, the Ellison report is critical of this finding. It says that there is intelligence to suggest that, which needs to be followed up to produce the evidence.

Detective Sergeant Davidson interviewed a man who walked into a police station in the first 24 hours after the 18-year-old's fatal stabbing in 1993 and revealed the suspects' names and addresses - yet nothing was done about it.

Other cops may have escaped with their names unpublished, or roles inconclusive, but DS Johnson for sure played a central role in undermining the investigation and prosecution of the group of five fascists and racists. As a result, the five murderers were not convicted (Though two of them eventually were, many years later, after the law was changed due to the outrage caused by the cover-up).

Since then, Davidson has been happily running an expat restaurant, The Smugglers (aka La Contrabandista), in Binibeca in Menorca. It's very well regarded on Trip Advisor:
"the food was very good, but don't expect spanish,or small helpings, have went back many times and they always recognise you".
Unfortunately, you may not have a chance to experience the Davidsons' hospitality for long, since after "14 fantastic years running this very successful business they have now decided the time is right to return to the UK ".

Nothing to do with the Independent publishing who it's owned by, then.
