Job Centre Sanction laws and how YOU can make a difference

Conall McGee | 28.02.2014 13:46

One small difference to make a massive difference.

I have started a petition regarding sanction laws in the UK.

People are sanctioned every day for reasons that are inaccurate or out of their control. People who are sanctioned are given the chance to have it reconsidered or appeal against it but only when the sanction is already in place which means that they can be left with no money until the sanction is over or a decision has been made that having their money stopped was incorrect but this can take anything between two weeks and six months. You can apply for hardship benefit but it is not always certain that you will get it and are then left with no money to support themselves.

Until this changes, everyone who gets accused of a doubt on their claim gets treated with a "guilty until proven innocent" approach where as it should be "innocent until proven guilty".

What I want to change is for the doubt to be looked at before the sanction is put in place and give the person a chance to explain the circumstances.

Just one little mistake or communication error could end up leaving that person homeless or worse.

Please sign this petition, share it with everyone you know and ask them to do the same.

Thank you.
