"Syria's holocaust": The British media totally lose the plot

At no time in history has the perversion of the truth been so extreme. Once the NATO-led genocide on the people of Syria comes to an end, The Guardian and the entire British media establishment must be tried for crimes against humanity.

excerpt from: Syrian regime document trove shows evidence of 'industrial scale' killing of detainees

Senior war crimes prosecutors say photographs and documents provide 'clear evidence' of systematic killing of 11,000 detainees

by Ian Black, The Guardian, 21 January 2014

 http://www.theguardian.com/world/interactive/2014/jan/20/torture-of-persons-under-current-syrian-regime-report

Syrian government officials could face war crimes charges in the light of a huge cache of evidence smuggled out of the country showing the "systematic killing" of about 11,000 detainees, according to three eminent international lawyers.

The three, former prosecutors at the criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Sierra Leone, examined thousands of Syrian government photographs and files recording deaths in the custody of regime security forces from March 2011 to last August.

Most of the victims were young men and many corpses were emaciated, bloodstained and bore signs of torture. Some had no eyes; others showed signs of strangulation or electrocution.

The UN and independent human rights groups have documented abuses by both Bashar al-Assad's government and rebels, but experts say this evidence is more detailed and on a far larger scale than anything else that has yet emerged from the 34-month crisis.

The three lawyers interviewed the source, a military policeman who worked secretly with a Syrian opposition group and later defected and fled the country. In three sessions in the last 10 days they found him credible and truthful and his account "most compelling".

They put all evidence under rigorous scrutiny, says their report, which has been obtained by the Guardian and CNN.

The authors are Sir Desmond de Silva QC, former chief prosecutor of the special court for Sierra Leone, Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, the former lead prosecutor of former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic, and Professor David Crane, who indicted President Charles Taylor of Liberia at the Sierra Leone court.

Bizzare

I can only assume your position is coming from that horrible lefty position of 'anything and everything of the west is bad' vs 'anything and everything in the middle east is good'. Assad is clearly a desperate and dangerous dictator hanging by a thread, whilst the rest of the country is torn apart by sectarian strife. Syrian Free Army and it's ineffective leadership, ISIS + al Nusra terrorising the population fighting both Assad and the FSA, various Kurdish groups in the north defending themselves, Turkish/Saudi/Qatari funding to some groups, Hezbollah and Iran possibly keeping space for the Allowite regime and Iran not willing to lose the Shiite crescent, crossfighting in Lebanon, millions of refugees, other Salafist militia, rural vs urban... but v.little 'NATO led genocide'!!

I suggest u listen to some of the amazing talks coming out from the LSE recently about the Syrian conflict to understand just how complicated it is, and how amazingly uninformed this post is!

anon

Rubbish.

"I can only assume your position is coming from that horrible lefty position of 'anything and everything of the west is bad' vs 'anything and everything in the middle east is good'. Assad is clearly a desperate and dangerous dictator hanging by a thread, whilst...blah blah blah"

So what part of this miserably inadaquate analysis differs from the US secretary of state in any way at all?

You know, the same US Secretary of state that has committed to support "the good guys" as 100,000 Syrians were slaughtered under his nose.

Your logic:

1. anon says Assad is a murderous dictator
2. the US secretary of state also says Assad is a murderous dictator
3. US secretary of state is a murderous scumbag
4. therefore anon is wrong about Assad

pfff.. crap logic

How about this analysis: Assad is a murderous dictator, AND Nato are murderous scumbags. The Syrian revolution is caught in the middle and it's them we need to be listening to and supporting.

Nearly there now.

"How about this analysis: Assad is a murderous dictator, AND Nato are murderous scumbags. The Syrian revolution is caught in the middle and it's them we need to be listening to and supporting."

No no no no no.

This is a far better analysis which shames you all.

Assad is both military strongman AND business progressive. Anybody that has been to Syria (I went in July 2004 to visit friends) prior to the outbreak of the civil war could not possibly fail to see the two sides to al-Assad. On the one hand he is a smooth operator, dapper in the latest western styled suits. Beautiful wife, compassionate man about town who spent most of hist time doing PR work all over Syria. This side of him is indistinguishable from any western leader. He would visit schools, universities, local businesses and would always try to take his wife along with him. This is slick man, a man who wanted to be seen as progressive. A man with a message.

That message was aimed at those who understood it.

On the other hand, al-Assad is a military strongman, a sun-glassed heavyweight. A steely armed man wearing a military uniform. A man whose wife was nowhere to be seen. A shadowy figure that you could only see by peering up from the streets of Damascus at a poster of the iron man looking down at you from a giant hoarding. This was a man to fear.

That message was aimed at those who understood it.

In reality, al-Assad has always been a man trying to perform the impossible gymnasium of straddling two horses doing their best to gallop away from each other. On the one hand you have liberal Syrians wanting to progress forward, and on the other hardcore nationalists hell-bent on following "the leader". If David Cameron, Barack Obama or any western leader attempted to do the same, they would last certainly no more than five or six minutes before being carved into two. al-Assad is a man whose difficult job of maintaining national unity was made impossible by US and British nationalists who do not see the finer complexity of governing the Syrian people, but who only see the protection of project Zionism. A chaotic Syria, is a Syria that cannot trouble Israel. The Syrian civil war, is its own end.

And that pretty much is it.

You numpties on the "left" have never understood this because you are too busy trying to position yourselves at whatever junction doesn't have a nationalist waiting on the platform. And you violent filth on the far right just don't have the capacity to think beyond the authoritarian anti-democratic fantasia you secretly dream about.

It is truly astounding that both the left and right wing together and in unison see everything in terms of being democratic or not. This is how democracy is converted into tyranny. One political idea shared by all the political advocates, to the detriment of true political choice.

You people on the left and you people on the right genuinely think you've got it all wrapped up don't you?

I personally wish al-Qaeda all the best in their efforts to bring you all to your knees, and am assured that they will give you a very special kiss on the lips from me when the time arrives.

Flashback: Since 2009, Britain had been preparing gunmen to invade Syria

Former French Minister of Foreign Affairs: “…Britain had been preparing gunmen to invade Syria two years before the crisis there flared up in 2011…”

Subject: SYRIA: FAO ATTORNEY GENERAL, FOREIGN SECRETARY, HOME SECRETARY & COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

Date: Sun, 16 Jun 2013 13:06:30 +0100

The former French Minister of Foreign Affairs has publicly made a statement that the British Government intended to overthrow the Syrian government for political reasons, long before there was civil unrest (fomented by the British) in Syria.

“…Britain had been preparing gunmen to invade Syria two years before the crisis there flared up in 2011…”

I attach the video of his public statement.

Clearly his statement has very grave and serious legal implications.

We would like written confirmation that the U.K government will make a Full statement in the House of Commons over why the UK government has clearly misled the U.K people and the International Community.

We expect that statement would include an announcement of a public inquiry.

 http://brianhaw.tv/index.php/blog/1799-15062013-video-french-confirm-britain-wanted-war-with-syria-years-ago

We would also expect the U.K government to publicly provide a written assurance that the U.K government will under no circumstances, now supply, to anyone, any weapons that could be used in Syria.

In addition following a public inquiry it is expected that the U.K will need to provide substantial reparations for the serious harm already caused to Syrian people, by the U.K government.

The written response by email, of the U.K government, is required as a matter of urgency.

Secret 2001 Pentagon Plan to Attack Lebanon

Bush's Plan for "Serial War" revealed by General Wesley Clark

Global Research, 23 July 2006

“[The] Five-year campaign plan [includes]… a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan” (Pentagon official quoted by General Wesley Clark)

According to General Wesley Clark–the Pentagon, by late 2001, was Planning to Attack Lebanon

”Winning Modern Wars” (page 130) General Clark states the following:

“As I went back through the Pentagon in November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said. But there was more. This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.

…He said it with reproach–with disbelief, almost–at the breadth of the vision. I moved the conversation away, for this was not something I wanted to hear. And it was not something I wanted to see moving forward, either. …I left the Pentagon that afternoon deeply concerned.”

Of course, this is fully consistent with the US Neocons’ master plan, “Rebuilding America’s Defenses,” published in August 2000 by the Project for the New American Century (PNAC)

And, as PNAC’s website (  http://www.newamericancentury.org ) notes, that the lead author of that plan, Thomas Donnelly, was a top official of Lockheed Martin–a company well acquainted with war and its profit potential.

It’s no surprise that Republicans are starting to talk about withdrawing troops from Iraq; the troops will be needed in Lebanon. And maybe Sudan and Syria?

Note:

More on General Clark–and his failure to mention all this in his pre-Iraq war commentary on CNN–is in Sydney Schanberg’s 9/29/03 article “The Secrets Clark Kept: What the General Never Told Us About the Bush Plan for Serial War” at  http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0340,schanberg,47436,1.html
