The World Cup negative buzz sucks | Brazil World Cup 2014

George Antunes | 17.01.2014 21:15 | Analysis

Reaction to Channel's 4 news abou the World Cup.

Being Brazilian I know for a fact that things are tough in Brazil when it comes to drug related crime. But one thing makes me wonder: How did they manage to get all this information? How did they manage to film it? How did they manage to get this amazing inside look? I'm not denying that I don't believe the Brazilian media and I'm not denying that I don't trust this pacification program either, but this reportage looks a lot sensationalist to me. For some reason it looks fabricated. Not sure though, just a hunch.

There is a lot of negative buzz around the Brazilian World Cup theme, specially among Brazilians. This really sucks!

"The residents said they trust the traffickers more than the police, simply because they grew up with them all their lives." - Of course they do, it is a deal. And just in case you don't know, everything in Brazil is bought: trust, security, power, privilege, silence and etc.

Answer me one question: Where in the world are people 100% safe anyway? In Japan? With tsunamis and nuclear accidents? In USA ? With terrorist attacks and crazy adolescents shooting people randomly? I'm not an ace in Geography but I'm sure there are problems anywhere in the world.

Isn't it time to think about our problems globally?

"Crime, violence and protests are not exclusive to Brazil.
There were similar concerns over the tournament being held in South Africa, while none of the United States, Mexico or Russia—all past or future World Cup hosts—have their own problems with crime. Every nation does."

My point is: Be cautious here like you would be anywhere in the world!
