United People Festival, Calais, October 14-20th

We are setting up a music festival in solidarity with undocumented migrants that will take place in October. The core idea of this project is to build bridges between exiles and inhabitants of Calais. To put it in a nutshell: to gather people from very different backgrounds, to support exiles and to raise public awareness of the issue exiles are facing through music.

Though exiles live in Calais enduring squalid conditions in insanitary houses and camps, they are not integrated with the local community. Although both of them live in the same place they do not encounter each other and so do not have any chance to better know the other one.

A l’unisson United People Festival will be held place from the 14th till the 20th of October at the Maison pour Tous de Calais. An exhibition hall will be open the whole week. There, we will present works painted by exiles (workshops will take place the week before on the meal distribution place and in the camps) and pictures from Calais, the Choucha refugee camp and from Marocco. This exhibition aims at showing that Calais is not the edge of the world but only one of the edges of the world.

On Thursday the 17th, a debate on the issue of migrations with an engaged sociologist will take place.

Concerts will take place on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th.
