Town End Bookworm | 12.09.2013 18:03 | History | Public sector cuts | Workers' Movements
On the 21st of September, Swindon will hold it's first ever Radical Bookfair. As well as a host of campaign stalls from the likes of IWW, Swindon Feminists, local trades councils, campaign groups and some of your favourite TUC unions, there will also be a wide range of books and merch on sale from quality distros and publishers such as AK press, Just press, Bristol radical History Group and Kebele infoshop.
And to sweeten the deal, we've lined up some quality talks on Swindon's Radical history, lining up as follows -
11.30-12.00 - Cllr Steve Wakefield on Jimmy Thomas, a prominent union leader and later Labour MP
12.10-12.40 - Local historian Mark Sutton on the Swindon peace day riots of 1919
12.50-1.20 - Will Simpson will be celebrating the history of the Easton Cowboys, a Bristol based radical, grassroots football team
1.30 - 2.00 - Graham Thompson will be talking about Percy Williams, an International Brigade volunteer from Swindon
2.10 - 2.40 - tbc
There will be a free afterparty from 6.30pm at the Beehive Pub featuring Efa Supertramp, Ash Victim and Kitchen Sink Dramas
The Bookfair will be held between 11-4 at Central Community Centre, Emlyn Square, a 5 minute walk from the train and bus stations. For more info, email SwindonTUC@gmail.com
