McAfee was pronounced dead by an emergency medical doctor at the Palms Casino Resort on the Las Vegas Strip, Nevada, USA.

Hotel security personnel were called to McAfee's hotel room - where he was found in a semi-conscious state. As medical authorities were dispatched McAfee lost consciousness, and despite the best efforts of the in-house doctor and nurse to revive Mr McAfee, they were unable to do so.

John McAfee was the founder of the word renowned McAfee anti virus software corporation. In recent years he became an eccentric recluse, living in luxury on the island of Belize.

Last year he was accused of being involved in the death of his neighbour - wealthy US ex pat Gregory Viant Faull.

McAfee is survived by his separated wife Judy, alongside his countless girlfriends.

It is speculated that his remains will be flown to Portland in Oregon, where he had taken up residence since his return to the United States.
