(TW: discussion of rape denial)

There's reasons why there is a lack of solidarity for Manning and Snowden. One is that people leading the charge have lumped them together with Assange - and supported Assange uncritically. This alienates a *lot* of potential supporters. Let's not forget that Assange has expensive lawyers and the support of rich celebrities. While he may be in the limelight, many much clearer abuses of deportation laws happen regularly in the UK - happen to people who could really use some grassroots support and visibility.

While I'm sure many Assange supporters take rape very seriously, a lot of the comments from his supporters have included things like: "it's not rape, it's sex by surprise!". I've seen no one put in any effort to distance themselves from the rape apologists, and as such it's not surprising that many many people see the "pro-Assange" protesters as supporting misogyny.
