Bristol Indymedia: Bank arson article hidden?

why? | 31.08.2013 13:03 | Indymedia

A press release appeared yesterday from a group claiming to have set fire to a bank in bristol. That article has disappeared from the Bristol site. I checked and its been hidden by the mods, and the reason listed is 'incitement'.

This worries me a bit. Whatever you think about the action (or the dreadful press release!), if Bindymedia is going to start hiding articles that incite others then its going against one of its main purposes as a site. I also note that incitement is not listed in the guidelines as a reason why articles would be hidden. I think these acts of Direct Action always create interesting debates, along with a ton of crap or dodgy comments, as they are one of the main fracture lines of ideology between anarchists in bristol. Bindymedia has always played a role as forum for discussions about these actions. I think it would be a big shame if Bindymedia started shying away from this role as forum for controversial press releases, especially about covert direct action. I assume this action has been taken as a result of pressure by I assume the police, and the threat of legal action against Bindymedia. If so it would be good to know this, or if not, some explanation given as to why the article was hidden.
